MID-WEEK MASH UP 2019: FAU @ UTSA

FAU returns to the field after their second bye week of the season, this Saturday at UTSA. The Owls are 1-0 all time against the Roadrunners.

In throwback fashion, the last time these schools played was in 2004.

The Owls currently sit in second place in Conference USA East, trailing only Marshall, who defeated the Owls earlier in the season.

If the Owls hope to play in the CUSA Championship game, they will need Marshall to lose to either Charlotte or FIU during the remainder of the season while also winning their remaining two contests (UTSA, Southern Miss).

Kickoff will be at 6:00 eastern time at the Alamodome, in San Antonio. "We need to do what we`ve been doing, great turnovers, protect the ball, stop the run and run the ball." Lane Kiffin said about the outlook in facing UTSA.

Below is our compilation of notables, and some video, as we reach the mid-point of 2019 Game Week 13.

Mid-Week Mashup

  • Wilson and Kiffin Homecoming UTSA is led by 4th year head coach Frank Wilson. Prior to arriving in San Antonio, Frank Wilson spent one season as the WR coach on Lane Kiffin`s staff at Tennessee in 2009. Wilson then served 5 seasons as the LSU running backs coach and recruiting coordinator under Les Miles. “He does a good job, always thought a lot of him”, said Lane Kiffin about facing one of his former lead assistant for the first time as head coaches.

  • By The Numbers The FAU defense has helped carry the team to a 7-3 record. This matchup bodes well for the Glenn Spencer led bunch. UTSA is currently ranked 115th in FBS with only 19 PPG and has struggled to create a consistent passing attack. Starting QB Lowell Narcisse only has 6 passing touchdowns on the season, and one 300 yard passing performance.

  • Key Matchup C-USA fans are in for a treat, as they will see two former “Power 5” quarterbacks in action. FAU QB Chris Robison (photo), who began his career as an Oklahoma Sooner, has been playing efficient football as of late. Starting for UTSA is sophomore QB Lowell Narcisse, a former LSU tiger. Narcissee transferred out of LSU as he was the odd man out in a quarterback race that included Heisman Trophy candidate Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan.

  • Breakout Candidate Senior DT William Davis will need to have a strong day if the Owls hope to limit the Roadrunners strong rushing attack. The senior defensive tackle has done a great job and clogging up the interior along with Noah Jefferson.  " We cant forget the little details, something so small can make us loose a game, said veteran DB Zyon Gilbert while discussing the mindset for the upcoming game.
