FAU Athletics Partners with adidas America

FAU’s 17 Teams to Switch in 2010, Men’s Basketball in 2011
Florida Atlantic University’s athletics department has signed an agreement with adidas America to outfit the University’s athletic teams, as well as strategically place university apparel in local stores, including the sideline gear worn by the FAU coaching staff.

“We had been with Nike for the past six years, but we felt it was time to make a switch to adidas for our all-sports apparel deal,” said Craig Angelos, director of athletics at FAU. “The financial terms were much better and we are excited about their service, their product and their desire and enthusiasm to partner with FAU and the community.”

The University signed its first all-sports apparel agreement in August 2004. The move to adidas will allow the athletics department to continue to outfit its teams with high-quality uniforms at a savings of more than $100,000. The partnership includes a direct-buy relationship, eliminating a third party distributor. Currently, there are just 50 universities/colleges that hold the direct-school relationship. This also will include a partnership with adidas’ Sports Licensing Division (SLD) to work with apparel placement in retail outlets within the region.

FAU will become the third university within the state of Florida to wear adidas, joining UCF and FIU. Denver University, ULM, Troy University and Arkansas State University are other Sun Belt Conference members to wear Adidas. Mississippi State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Tennessee and Notre Dame University are some of the other universities nationwide to also partner with adidas.
