Softball: FAU Routs Charleston Southern 9-0

Stauffer Throws Complete Game Two-Hitter
The Florida Atlantic softball team defeated Charleston Southern 9-0 on Saturday night behind a complete game two-hitter by Kathryn Stauffer.

The Owls (13-11) broke the game open in the second inning, scoring five runs on four hits and a Buccaneer error. Brittany Walker started the inning off with a single to left, followed by an Ashlyn Parmerter bunt that allowed everyone to advance safely. Joshlyn Martinez then singled to center which loaded the bases for Diandra Fernandez. Fernandez hit a two-run double to left to put FAU ahead 2-0. Jessica Myers laced a triple that drove in Martinez and Fernandez before Myers scored herself on another Buccaneer miscue.

FAU didn’t score again until the bottom of the sixth when Martinez and Fernandez led off the inning with back to back base hits, then Kimberly Petrovich reached on an error. Taylor Fawbush smacked a pinch-hit double to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Owls. After a Amber Barton groundout and a Quincy Wilson strikeout, Cari Curfman came to the plate and hit a two-run double which scored Fawbush and Petrovich to end the game.

Kathryn Stauffer threw her fifth complete game in as many starts, allowing just two hits while striking out seven to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Owls play Syracuse on Sunday at 3 p.m. as part of the Parents’ Weekend tournament.
