Florida Atlantic Football landed a defensive back through the portal on Tuesday afternoon. Former Liberty DB and 3-star recruit Jayden Sweeney announced he would be transferring to FAU for his 4th season of college football.
The 5 ’11 190 pound Alabama Native has spent the first 3 seasons of his career at Liberty, appearing in 22 games across the past 2 seasons after a redshirt in 2022 and recording 16 tackles and a PBU. Originally committing to Liberty as a safety prior to the 2022 season, Sweeney made the switch to cornerback during training camp last season and was expected to make a run at a starting CB role for the Flames this season prior to transferring.
Coming out of Clay-Chalkville High School, Sweeney was a 3 star recruit and had offers from Duke, Tulane and Charlotte among others before committing to Liberty on December 15th 2021. Sweeney had a very successful high school career, Finishing his junior season with 117 tackles, also finishing first team All-State as a senior and was a part of a state championship as a senior and a 15-0 record.

Sweeney joins a DB room which will have multiple jobs up for grabs during summer and fall camp, following departures of safeties Phil Dunnam, CJ Heard and Jayden Williams to the transfer portal and corners Buggs Brown and Daedae Hill to the NFL draft. He becomes the 7th defensive back addition out of the transfer portal, joining Derrick “Dooda” Rogers, Antonio Robinson, LJ Hall, Terez Reid, MJ Hinson Jr, and Dillion Williams and 9th overall including freshman Damon Allen and Zion Paret.
