Florida Atlantic Football lands former UTEP DB Dillion Williams via transfer portal

Florida Atlantic Football added another defensive back through the transfer portal on Wednesday afternoon. Former UTEP DB and 3-Star recruit Dillion Williams announced he would be transferring to FAU for his Senior season of college football.

The 5’11 178 pounds Nacogdoches Texas native spent last season at UTEP, recording 34 tackles, and an interception across 12 games of action. Prior to transferring to UTEP before last season, Williams spent the first 3 seasons of his collegiate career at North Texas, where he was a 3 star recruit out of Nacogdoches High School and played in 24 games across 3 seasons in a reserve DB role, notching 8 tackles.

Following a successful High School career where he earned first team All-District 9-5A honors in both his junior and senior seasons, Williams was rated as a top-120 prospect in the state of Texas and ultimately committed to UNT on February 3rd 2021. This time out of the transfer portal, Williams remained a 3-star recruit and drew SEC interest from Arkansas amongst others, but ultimately decided to commit to FAU on April 30th.

Williams joins a DB room which will have multiple jobs up for grabs during summer and fall camp, following departures of safeties Phil Dunnam, CJ Heard and Jayden Williams to the transfer portal and corners Buggs Brown and Daedae Hill to the NFL draft. He becomes the 7th defensive back addition out of the transfer portal, joining Derrick “Dooda” Rogers, Antonio Robinson, LJ Hall, Terez Reid, MJ Hinson Jr, and Trey Sweeney and 10th overall including freshman Damon Allen, Zion Paret and Josiah Farmer.

A natural safety, Williams will compete against Trey Sweeney, Mike Wright III and Kyle Boylston for a starting safety role and also brings immense special teams experience to the table from his time at North Texas.
