After completing 25-36 passes for 339 yards with five total touchdowns and no interceptions in a thrilling 42-39 win over Middle Tennessee to open conference play, Charlotte QB Chris Reynolds was voted C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. UTSA LB Clarence Hicks and WKU S A.J. Brathwaite, Jr. took home co-Defensive Player of the Week honors following strong performances against Memphis and Indiana, respectively. Hicks recorded six total tackles, 3.0 TFL and 2.0 sacks in UTSA’s comeback win at Memphis, while Brathwaite made a career-best 15 total tackles, with a sack and a forced fumble against Indiana. UTSA K Hunter Duplessis was named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week after making a 42-yard game-winning field goal for the Roadrunners as time expired at Memphis. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.

Reynolds threw four touchdown passes and ran for what proved to be the difference maker in Charlotte’s 42-39 win over Middle Tennessee in the 49ers C-USA opener. Reynolds broke the 49ers all-time record for career touchdown passes and set a new school record for touchdown passes in a C-USA game as the 49ers improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2014. Reynolds was 25-for-36 (69.4%) for 339 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions – setting program records for the most 300-yd passing performances and consecutive games with a touchdown pass. This is Reynolds’ second Offensive Player of the Week honor of 2021 (Sept. 6).

Hicks led an opportunistic UTSA defense that forced a pair of key fourth-quarter turnovers in a 31-28 come-from-behind victory over Memphis on Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The super senior outside linebacker registered six tackles, including 3.0 TFL and 2.0 sacks, to help the Roadrunners record the largest comeback win in program history by erasing a 21-0 deficit. Hicks had a strip sack in the final stanza that resulted in a fumble recovery and 12-yard return by Lorenzo Dantzler to the Tigers 7-yard line, eventually leading to the game-tying score. Hicks currently leads C-USA and ranks 14th in the nation in tackles for loss per game (1.7).

Brathwaite led the WKU defense with a career-high 15 total tackles (nine solo, six assisted) while adding a sack and a forced fumble against Big Ten opponent Indiana. A first-year starter, Brathwaite came into the season with 18 career tackles in 28 games at WKU. His 15 tackles tied for the fourth-most by a Hilltopper defender since the program joined FBS in 2009. The 15 tackles is tied for the most this season by a C-USA player.

Duplessis drilled a 42-yard field goal as time expired to complete a 31-28 comeback victory over Memphis on Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The kick sealed the largest come-from-behind win in UTSA history and marked the second walk-off field goal in the last two seasons for the San Antonio native. Duplessis also made all four extra-point attempts in the win and he currently stands second in the FBS in field goals made per game (2.25). This marks Duplessis’ second Player of the Week honor this season (Sept. 6).
