Let's start the week off with some statistics.  Although the game is not played on paper, this gives us an idea of head-to-head comparison by stats.  The numbers (rankings) represented are how UF ranks in the SEC and how FAU ranks in the Sunbelt:

Tebow got hurt a couple of times and the coaches at UF just left him in - continuing to run him - when the game was settled. He looked dazed a few times. They are asking for him to go down for good.

I saw up close what his running did to Troy. FAU MUST hit him solidly, somewhat low and wrap up. Gang tackling is a must.

If the Owls do what the Trojans tried (flinging their bodies at him, sort of like the old cross-body block), hitting hard and then not wrapping up, Tebow will run all over them.

I would love to see a world-shocking performance in Gainesville on Saturday. Show the SunBelt some love, Owls!

Best case scenario: we win
Second best case scenario: we lose but put more points on UF than Troy did
Medium case scenario: we lose and put up less points than Troy
Worst case scenario: the scoreboard looks like the final score from Miami vs Virginia

I wonder if any Gators are going to show up here. Anybody know a big messageboard for UF? I wonder what they're saying… I did see something to the effect of, "UF fans are taking bets on how many FAU players UF can injure." That and how many running TD's Tebow will have against us. Wondering if they thought the same about WKU and Troy. Likely.

Can our defense stop him? I asked a couple of players, including Rusty Smith, if the UF game worried them. He said no because they've played against plenty of teams with rushing QBs before (USF for instance) and they're ready to go in there and give them hell. I think I may have said this before but I asked Schnellenberger if the guys were going to be as pumped up to play UF as USF and he said definitely, more so, and he may not be able to calm them down.

The UF game bodes well for us, in a way, because our guys put on their 'A' game when the pressure is poured on… whether it's an OOC opponent (pressure all game) or an SBC game (pressure in the 4th Q) they seem to thrive on it.

What's likely to happen is that FAU will play well with UF in the first half, although UF will take the lead (say 21-10), then UF is going to tire out our guys in the second half and UF will drive up the score.

Hope I'm wrong, of course.

Hope you're wrong as well, but that was my exact thought.  21-10 at half…then UF is going to tire out our guys in the second half and UF will drive up the score.

The variables could be…how long does UF keep Tebow and the starters in?  The second teamers sometimes come in with a lot to prove and run it up themselves even more.  Also, if the game gets out of hand, when does HS pull our starters and protect against injuries so we can beat FIU and Troy?

Should be interesting.  I hope we keep it respectable.  I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Let us not forget that Attorney Willie Gary will be on the side lines co-coaching this game. He is the "coach of upsets".

Re: Official: Game Week Thread: FAU vs Gators

Si I got curious about how UF did in its seventh year of football. The official Gator web site lists 1906 as its first year of FB, which would make the seventh year 1912. The site shows that the Gators played three roughly comparable schools (Auburn, South Carolina and Georgia Tech), but no one in the North or Midwest. The UF 1912 results: Lost at Auburn 27-13; beat South Carolina in Gainesville 10-6; lost at Georgia Tech 14-7; hammered College of Charleston in Gainesville 78-0; beat Stetson in Gainesville 23-7; tied Mercer in Jacksonville 0-0; thrashed Tampa AC (Athletic Club?) in Tampa 44-0; beat Vedado Club in Havana, Cuba 28-0. On the season, the Gators (or whatever they were called back then) were 5-2-1. scoring 203 points and giving up 55. They didn't start venturing too far north until 1916 (11th year), when they lost at Tennessee 24-0 and lost at Indiana 14-3. The following year, 1917, they lost at Kentucky 52-0. And in 1922, they ventured all the way to Boston, where they lost to Harvard 24-0.

What does all of this mean? Nothing except that I was trying to find something to do while listening to the basketball game.
