Re: Game Week Thread: MTSU vs FAU - Oct. 31st 4:00PM EST

Blue Raiders hit the road to face FAU

Quotes from Blue Raider's Head Coach Rick Stockstill at Tuesday's press conference:

"We are excited about this game. It is another opportunity to play another good football team. Florida Atlantic has won a couple in a row and they are a really good offensive football team scoring a lot of points right now. There defense is pretty solid. They had the one game early in the season where they gave up a lot of points, but they have been playing really solid lately. We are going to have to play well to win this game."

"They have good players. What you do offensively and defensively is really relevant to the type of players you have. Coach Schnellenberger has recruited the right players for his system and we are recruiting the right players for our system. They have good players with good athleticism and a lot of speed. Their quarterback is a four-year starter who can make all the throws. They have a powerful running back who leads the conference in rushing. I don't think it is as much of what type of offense you have as what type of players you have."

Re: Game Week Thread: MTSU vs FAU - Oct. 31st 4:00PM EST

MTSU Game Notes added up top…but couple of observations up front…

Based on recent results, we simply need to continue to exhibit an accurate passing game, and run the ball with efficiency.

But, most importantly, we have to minimize turnovers - as that has been a problem against the Blue Raider's D for the duration of the series.

If we do that, the rest will take care of itself, and we should win this game by 10+ points.

Anyway…

Notes "Of Note":

"Saturday’s football game between Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic will be the seventh meeting on the
gridiron between the two schools. The series, which began in 2003, is tied 3-3. The Owls upset the Blue Raiders with a
last second touchdown pass in 2003, then came back the following year to Murfreesboro to down the Blue Raiders once
again, 27-20. Middle Tennessee picked up its first win in the series in 2005 in Ft. Lauderdale, 35-14, and won by the same
score in 2006. FAU bounced back with a 27-14 decision in the 2007 season opener in Ft. Lauderdale before MT took a last
second victory last year in Murfreesboro, 14-13. MT is 1-1 in Ft. Lauderdale.

- Second half scoring in the series stands MT 76, FAU 68.

- MT’s best quarter in the series has been the fourth with 69 points, including 14 last year.

- There have been 102 penalties called in the series. MT has been flagged 53 times and FAU 49.

- MT has allowed only one 100-yard rusher in the series and that came last year when Edgecomb rushed for 103
  yards on 16 attempts.

- The Blue Raiders own two 100-yard games in the series and both were by Eugene Gross. Gross had
  208 yards in 2006 and 131 yards in 2005.

- In the six meetings, FAU has turned the ball over 18 times (5 in 2005, 4 in 2006 and 2008) compared to 11 by
Middle Tennessee (4 in the 2007 meeting). Seven of the 11 Blue Raider turnovers have been interceptions.

- Middle Tennessee has averaged 339.0 yards of total offense against FAU in the six meetings.

- Two of the six meetings have been decided by one play with no time remaining on the clock (2003, 2008)."

Blue Raiders head to the Sunshine State to take on FAU Saturday

"Looking at their offense, and the way they have played lately, we are going to have to score points,' said Stockstill. "You do not want a shootout, but you never know."

The punt is blocked by MTS for an easy TD. FAU 10-7. Owls Punter was way too slow.

Punter fumbles the snap. Defense holds. MTS makes the FG. The punter has given MTS all 10 points.
