Sun Belt Football: Games for Week of November 24, 2012

Week Thirteen SBC Players of the Week – as selected by media panel…

Offensive

Antonio Andrews (WKU, Jr., RB)

WKU junior running back Antonio Andrews went over 300 all-purpose yards for the third straight game, and over 200 rushing yards for the second straight contest, helping WKU to a 25-24 come-from-behind win against North Texas on Saturday. Andrews carried the ball 25 times for 230 yards and a touchdown in the victory. He also caught a pair of passes for 12 yards, while posted 68 kickoff return yards and 13 punt return yards to finish with 323 all-purpose yards. With 1,609 yards on the year, Andrews now ranks fourth on WKU’s single-season rushing list and is just the fifth player in Hilltopper history to post a 1,500-yard season. Additionally, with 2,977 all-purpose yards this season, he ranks third on the NCAA single-season list behind Pacific's Ryan Benjamin (2,995 yards in 1991) and Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders (3,250 yards in 1988). Andrews is just 274 yards away from breaking Sanders’ single-season record set during his Heisman-Trophy winning campaign.

Defensive

Kevin Byard (Middle Tennessee, r-Fr., DB)

Safety Kevin Byard forced three Troy turnovers in Middle Tennessee’s 24-21 win over Troy on Saturday. He had a season-high two interceptions, including a 77-yard interception return for the eventual game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. His first interception led to a Blue Raider field goal in the opening quarter. Byard also had a forced fumble, a pass breakup, and six tackles as the Blue Raiders’ snapped a six-game losing streak to Troy and won their eighth game of the season. He now leads the team with four interceptions on the year, and is one of three Blue Raiders with two forced fumbles.

Special Teams

Michel Chapuseaux (South Alabama, Sr., PK)

Chapuseaux tied a career high with three field goals, connecting from 45, 33 and 50 yards out in the second quarter, finishing with 12 points in last week’s matchup with Louisiana-Lafayette. With the effort — his third outing the fall with a double-digit point total — the senior set a school season record with 83 points while taking over the Sun Belt Conference lead with 20 field goals this season. Two of the senior’s six kickoffs went for touchbacks, as his efforts helped USA’s coverage unit allow just over 20 yards per return.
