FAU Recruiting Notebook: 5/13

We’re just over halfway through the spring evaluation period, and while most of the recruiting talk seems to be focused around keeping five-star running back Jordan Scarlett committed, it’s a pair of other FAU commits that fans should start worrying about.

South Plantation three-star safety Rodrick Archer and Miramar two-star safety Herbert Miller have both turned into commodities this spring. Archer is actively being pursued by UCF (a school he spent four days at last month) while Miller picked up an offer from Cincinnati.

Both players remain pledged to FAU, but like with Scarlett, the Owls are going to have to fend off some other schools.

Miller was a standout in a spring scrimmage against Booker T. Washington last weekend, as he helped the Miramar defense shutdown the defending national champions. He lined up a cornerback, but showed he has the size to play safety in college.

on Monday, Miller reaffirmed his commitment to FAU, but don’t be surprised if things start to change with more schools getting involved, especially with the slick Eddie Gran leading Cincinnati’s recruiting efforts.

Orlando duo gets a visit:

Since Charlie Partridge has taken over at FAU, the main focuses has been recruiting Broward County, and there is no question about that. The Owls inked two players from the area in February, and all five current commits in the Class of 2015 are from Broward County high schools.

But the spring evaluation period has allowed for the staff to reach out across the state, and Orlando has been a focus.

Bishop Moore offensive linemen C.J. Riddell and Parker Boudreaux got a visit from FAU assistants Bart Miller and Terrance Jamison on Monday. The Owls offered Boudreaux (a rising-junior with already 15 offers) on the spot, but it’s his teammate that is more of the focus.

After evaluating Riddell, the staff told him they want him in camp this summer. Don’t be surprised if an offers follows.

Coaches on the road:

Speaking of players FAU is evaluating, coaches have seen prospects all across the state the past two weeks. Here’s a run down of which assistants have been where:

Nick Caley is assigned to the Tampa area, and he has hit a host of schools last week. He hand delivered summer camp information to Newsome ’16 defensive tackle Sean Behrens before evaluating Brandon wide receiver Damon Spencer. He also was at Robinson and Lakewood to see the talent. Caley tweeted Tuesday, that he's back on the road in Tampa "burrowing down."

Chris Hurd has been handling the Panhandle, an area that has surprisingly has been generous to the Owls over the years. He stopped by Escambia to see three-star safety Terik Miller and athlete Gerold Bright last week. Hurd also visited Niceville, the home of three-star running back ShiKim Howard along with North Florida Christian to check out linebacker Kevin Dawson.

Hurd was at Wakulla and Madison County on Monday. Wakulla is the home of 16’ four-star quarterback Feleipe Franks and 16’ linebacker Monterious Loggins, who FAU offered earlier this month. Hurd also evaluated Tallahassee Leon tight end Mac Carey.

Brian Wright was believed to be at Suncoast on Saturday evaluating ’16 quarterback Matt Dame. Dame already holds offers from Akron and Miami. Wright also was at Deltona to see ’16 defensive end Jamari Jiles last week.

Dwyer quarterback Daniel Parr, the Owls’ and Wright’s assumed top target at the position, was offered by Miami last week. That offer for Parr has opened up some new names to monitor at quarterback, with many assuming Parr could be Miami-bound. one of those is Berkeley Prep pro-style passer Brad Mayes.

Roc Bellantoni has been patrolling Palm Beach County for the Owls. Bellantoni offered Suncoast safety Jamari Bozeman on Saturday along with Palm Beach Central athlete Kemar Downer. Bozeman was a guy the previous staff offered, so the interest is clear. Port St. Luice ’16 center Deandre Sims and South Fork linebacker Blake Lucky are also targets.

Bart Miller is keen on finding offensive linemen. Clay tackle Michael Howard, St. Thomas Aquinas tackle Colin Bryne and Winter Springs tackle Bo Alexander are names to remember along with Riddell, who was mentioned above.

Roger Harriott has been at almost every school in Broward county. He was at South Broward to see wide receiver Jeremy Lubin and athlete Marquise Brown. Dillard to see rising 16’ defensive tackle Aaron Thompson (who the Owls later offered). Stranahan to see defensive end Kirk Livingston and safety Richie Kittles. American Heritage-Plantation and St. Thomas Aquinas to see way to many prospects to list, but that would include Scarlett. Carol City to evaluate 16’ quarterback Stephen Calvert, and much more.

Recent offers:
DB Marcus Walker
DB Calvin Brewton (FSU commit)
OT Geron Christian
DE Jason Strowbridge
RB Emmanuel Reed

Attwood evaluated

FAU offensive coordinator Brian Wright was in Cape Coral Monday to evaluate Ida S. Baker’s Sage Attwood. With the Owls searching for a quarterback in the class, Attwood is one of staff’s targets.

The three-star quarterback visited Boca Raton for junior day and has been in contact with the staff ever since. He doesn’t have an offer but plans to camp this summer with the Owls.

Navy, FIU, Wake Forest, Wofford and Youngstown State have all offered Attwood, with Michigan and USF showing interest.

Wright also had a chance to check out three-star cornerback Willie Overstreet.

Linebackers offered

FAU assistants Nick Caley and Roger Harriott were both at Wiregrass Tuesday to see three-star linebacker Jaye Miner. Miner was a prospect that Carl Pelini's staff had inquired about, but they never extended an offer. Caley and Harriott took care of that on Tuesday.

The Owls also became the first school to offer St. Cloud Harmony linebacker Daishaun Grimes.
