There are four new coaches in Conference USA this season: Michael Curry at Florida Atlantic, Dan D'Antoni at Marshall, Mike Rhoades at Rice and Sadler at Southern Miss. All four are excited about the opportunity that awaits them, though perhaps none more so than D'Antoni, the brother of former NBA head coach Mike D'Antoni.
D'Antoni is not the only new coach in C-USA with an NBA background. Michael Curry had an 11-year NBA playing career and also spent a season as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons before returning to the college game this year with Florida Atlantic.
Curry, who also worked in the NBA front office as the vice president of player development and the VP of basketball operations, said he has been impressed with what he has seen from Conference USA in recent years.
"I think Conference USA is right there knocking at the door of being as competitive as the high-major schools," Curry said. "One of the things that excited me about this program (Florida Atlantic) was the move to C-USA. We have a new AD and a new president who want to grow athletics, and this conference is a good place to make that jump."
