Conference Membership Discussion

Post

Sorry guys from both sides but FAU/FIU will forever be co-joined at the hip!

Same issues to overcome with only minor differences in problems to overcome!

Compared to the Big 3 we will forever be far behind, just the fact that State $$$ was used to build their facilities originally and we have had to raise our own, even with being STATE colleges makes facilities unequal, maybe forever! And then there is that ol Conference affiliation issue - they are old and established in what are wrongly (illegally to me!!!) labeled Power Conferences where the $$$ pie is monopolistically horded and protected. And that leads to our BIGGEST problem - our Conference $$$ being what pitifully small percent of Power5 ANNUAL payoffs.

Unfortunately, you seem to be correct…even in the below capacity with regards to not even  being able to separate a stadium form one another, and this was only ONE of at least five tweets with the same identical wrong information. From an about with 736K followers…sad.

—Sorry guys from both sides but FAU/FIU will forever be co-joined at the hip!

TCU and SMU felt this same exact way 15 years ago.

We wont be forever joined at the hip.  With FAU/FIU it's an arms race and we need to separate.  There will be a 'winner' and 'loser' here.

—Compared to the Big 3 we will forever be far behind, just the fact that State $$$ was used to build their facilities originally and we have had to raise our own, even with being STATE colleges makes facilities unequal, maybe forever!

First, Miami is private and doesn't even have their own stadium.  Secondly, we have spent $150,000,000 on football facilities in the last 10 years.  The reality is, after Schmidt Center is complete the difference in facilities isn't all that great.  Adding 30,000 to our stadium would be easy (problem is, we cant fill 30k we have now).

—leads to our BIGGEST problem - our Conference $$$ being what pitifully small percent of Power5 ANNUAL payoffs.

Completely true.  And this goes back to the question I asked a few pages ago.  How do we go about changing the perception of FAU as quickly as possible?

Money is there folks.  Our athletics budget (thanks to students) is flush.  We have donors.  We are spending millions of dollars per year on infrastructure (awesome).

What is next?  What do we need to do next?  The money we have, it goes where next?

If the department was so flushed with cash why could they fund the renovations themselves to the Burrow or give the baseball team at least covered batting cages and pitching areas which can be done at low cost. Why do you sit on cash and that reason being you want to give Lane another extension if we win the title again.

I agree with this USMC!!!! Do we need to go all out and build a totally new baseball stadium or can it be upgraded to a pretty decent level? Seems like FAU COULD do this option if we really wanted to for some reasonable amount of $$$! I am taking millions but say a comparable $3M that the arena (gym) is getting. Seems like yo could do A LOT of improving/upgrading with that type of $$$ without bulldozing the existing stadium and starting over for I would say $20M minimum.

IF our admins want to move up in the Conference world to secure a better revenue flow, we should ALREADY, LONG AGO, have completed upgrades to our facilities (NOT JUST FOOTBALL!!!!).

The reason we’re I even having this discussion is because we’ve gone all in on football. If somehow a new baseball field, basketball arena, and stadium expansion to 60k happens, throw in the nightlife project too, we’re a big time college not any different from P5 schools. Considering it seems like we keep on getting more and more donations, I wouldn’t count on those things not happening. But you have to go all in on football at the expense of other sports for at least a little while longer. We need to get into the top 25

Problem is focusing on that plan if football has another slide, though one winning season hasnt fully stopped that slide just halted the momentum, like we were on the funding may dry up. Do the quick cheaper upgrades now like covered batting cages or pitching area now along with the burrow renovations while we still have name brand coach that is bringing in those students that are filling the coffers and getting those donations. It doesn’t have to be large projects just small ones to get the ball rolling.

This is true.

It’s almost like FAU has backed a guy on the web.com.

Lane has travel funds, tournament entry fees, clubs, etc.

Now it’s time to perform.  I don’t care if CUSA is fickle…you’ve been backed, you’re paid, let’s go.

On the topic of baseball…

If you don’t think the University could upgrade baseball stadium tomorrow with simple things you’re kidding yourself.

Been asking about what’s next.  Id almost guarantee you’ll see assistant football coaches pool pay increase before baseball stadium is upgraded.

Do we own that land on the north side of campus, below Spanish River? I'm asking, are we leasing to Bob's Chiropractic, as like, a choice? If so, there's your 20th Street Project 2.0. Unless Bob's pocket is that deep. I'd rather have a Funky Buddha taproom or second El Jefe/Charm City location, and not Susie's Eye Care Pro Plus. I don't even know what's there anymore…

It's related, maybe, I think. We ought to be recruiting fans the way we do players. We're building more on-campus housing (I go back and fourth on my opinion of Greek Housing), good. But we need to get them to stay close and invest interest in campus goings-on. Like the 20th Street non-Project. It would carry-over to football and baseball (but not without bathrooms at the field? I must have forgotten that? damn) and so on.

I don’t think the project will ever get off the ground. You have the neighborhoods that hate the plane and while glades road could be a great location for a couple bars near the burger joint you have another neighborhood right there. Plus I’m sure the city council has said well Atlantic is 10-20 minutes away. The students can just go their.
