The calendar turns to October this week and conference play heats up with four league games spread throughout Saturday’s schedule. This week’s slate also features a Friday night non-conference tilt against a ranked opponent.

Louisiana Tech will carry its 2-0 record out West for its first-ever meeting with No. 22 BYU (7 pm MT on ESPN2).  Graduate transfer QB Luke Anthony has impressed in his first two games as a Bulldog, throwing for 463 yards and eight touchdowns.  He will lead the Bulldogs offense against a Cougars team that has allowed just 10 points in two games.

UAB (2-1) will return to Legion Field looking for its 20th consecutive home victory when UTSA (3-0) comes to town. Blazers senior RB Spencer Brown, already the school’s all-time leading rusher, is now its all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (36). The Roadrunners are 3-0 for the third time in program history and have a talented rusher of their own in sophomore Sincere McCormick (126 yards per game with three TDs).

A pair of schools that have had their games postponed each of the last two weeks are slated to meet each other when Charlotte (0-1) visits Florida Atlantic (0-0) in Boca Raton. Redshirt junior LB Tyler Murray (14) and Redshirt senior S Ben DeLuca (16) combined for 30 tackles in Charlotte’s season opener and will lead the defense against an Owls team that will have a lot of new faces on their offense, but return the team’s top four rushers from last season.

The most-played rivalry in Conference USA meets for the 71st time when WKU travels 100 miles south to meet Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders narrowly lead the all-time series, which has seen four of the last eight meetings go to overtime, while seven of the last nine have been decided by one possession.

North Texas plays its third straight home game when it welcomes West Division rival Southern Miss to Denton in a matchup of the top two passing offenses in C-USA. The Mean Green’s highly productive offense (1,238 total yards in their first two games) includes senior WR Jaelon Darden (five TDs in two outings). Golden Eagles senior QB Jack Abraham is averaging a league-best 292.3 yards per game through the air with five passing scores.

The Blue Raiders (0-4) will likely look to make a change soon at the head spot if this continues, but is it warranted?

One would think it would take a miracle to rescue them into relevance at this point. Too many hurdles to clear that have nothing to do with coaching - which Stockstill is actually good at despite the results so far this season.

After posting 10 tackles, four TFL’s, three sacks and a forced fumble in Florida Atlantic’s season-opening win over Charlotte, Owls’ senior OLB Leighton McCarthy earned the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Offensive Player of the Week honor went to WKU graduate QB Tyrrell Pigrome, who passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 55 yards in the Hilltoppers 20-17 win at rival Middle Tennessee.

The Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to WKU redshirt sophomore K Brayden Narveson, who accounted for eight of WKU’s 20 points in the win at Middle Tennessee, including field goals of 47 and 53 yards.

C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
