The Charlotte 49ers completed the sweep of the FAU Owls with yet another heartbreaking one-run game. The Owls started a rally, which included back-to-back home runs from Nolan Schanuel and B.J. Murray, but Wilfredo Alvarez flew out with runners in scoring position to end the ballgame.

The Rundown
  • FAU pitching struggled to get men out with two outs, allowing Charlotte to hit .455 with their backs against the wall. In comparison, the Owls hit .333 in two-out situations, with the late rally helping pad that number.
  • Owls batters hit 0-2 with the bases loaded and left 9 runners on base, including one occasion when they left the bases loaded and multiple other opportunities with two runners in scoring position. Charlotte only left 6 on.
  • Nolan Schanuel reached base in all of his plate appearances, hitting 4-4 with two home runs and a walk, making his case for Freshman of the Year considerations by leading the Owls in both home runs (8) and RBIs (39).
  • The Owls only hit .364 with runners in scoring position compared to Charlotte's .462.
  • FAU struck out 11 times in today's ballgame, while Charlotte only struck out 6 times.

"Charlotte played very well today and this weekend. I was proud of the way the guys fought, but we have to better. We had a few opportunities to get off the field and couldn't do it. We need someone on the pitching staff to emerge. We will be back at it next week, another chance to get better." - Head Coach John McCormack

The Owls will return home to face the Old Dominion Monarchs on Friday, April 9th. First pitch is set at 5 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on C-USA TV.
