2021 C-USA Baseball in Regional Action
The Bulldogs see a 5-3 lead in the top half of the 5th vanish, as the Wolf Pack closes out with an 11-2 advantage the rest of the way. They outhit the host 19-9 for the game.
The Golden Eagles get the job done, and force a second meeting with the Rebels on Monday at 1:00 PM EST.
All-C-USA First Team outfielder Reed Trimble hit a two-run home run and added an RBI single during a seven-run first inning.
The Monarchs suffer their first loss, but will have another chance to claim a Super regional spot tomorrow in a rematch with the cavaliers at 7:00 PM EST.
Virginia forced Monday's final game by defeating the Monarchs, 8-3, Sunday night in a game in which Virginia’s pitching dominated. The Cavaliers struck out 24 ODU batters and staved off several ODU threats. ODU had only five hits and left 10 men on base.
Aside from the first two innings - after which they would trail 9-0 - the Golden Eagles made a valiant comeback effort, outscoring the Rebels 9-3 the rest of the way.
Stats don't always tell the full story, and had the initial mound meltdown not occurred, this game would have gone the other way.
Tonight's Regional Final with Virginia has been postponed. We will play UVA tomorrow morning at 9:06 a.m. Morning baseball with the winner advancing to the Super Regionals.#RoadToOmaha pic.twitter.com/g4rNLZZnu6
