In which case we pay him nearly nothing. Would be ideal.

I tend to agree. Probably like a receivers coach or QB coach Maryland or something. I don't think he'd even be able to land an analyst role at Bama.

Just curious, how is "cause" defined?

Crazy that these contracts are not results oriented for this much money.

An example of "cause" would display / include gross negligence in an area of expected performance.

For example, if you streak across the administration building lawn, that would be cause.

If you fail to monitor your assistant coach, who smokes crack with a recruit, that would be cause.

Of course these are far and away from center in expected performance, but it takes a lot to show "cause".

Here are the main types:

Gross misconduct
Theft of company resources
Inappropriate relationships
Breach of confidentiality
Gross insubordination
Alcohol/drug-related misconduct
Conviction for an offense
Serious breach of safety rules
Incompetence
Bribery

Unfortunately, winning less than half your games will probably never be cause.

Steve Berkowitz reported this:

"CORRECTION on a Tweet from yesterday concerning buyout that FAU owes in connection with firing football coach Willie Taggart.

FAU said tonight through an athletics department spokesman that the amount owed to Taggart is $288,462 (20 weeks of Taggart's $750,000 annual salary)".

I'm kinda curious how they pulled this off - I thought the contract specified remainder of the 5 year salary. Either way, moving on from Taggart for only 300k is a really incredible program saving move.
