UAB 70  Rice 52

  • UAB’s KJ Buffen posted his second double-double in as many games, finishing the week averaging 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.


No. 21 Florida Atlantic 70  WKU 63

  • Following Charleston’s loss on Saturday, Florida Atlantic now owns the longest active winning streak in Division I at 20 games. It’s tied for the fourth-longest streak in C-USA history.


LA Tech 66  UTSA 55

  • Isaiah Crawford and Cobe Williams combined for 37 of LA Tech’s 66 points on 15-26 shooting (57.7 percent) on Saturday. The duo also combined for 13 rebounds and seven assists.


North Texas 52  UTEP 42

  • North Texas’ defense limited UTEP to 42 points, the fewest allowed by the Mean Green this season, while forcing nine steals and 17 turnovers.


FIU 82  Middle Tennessee 74

  • FIU improved to 10-4 at home after knocking off Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Denver Jones (21) posted his eighth 20-point game within the Ocean Bank Convocation Center this season.

UAB’s KJ Buffen and FIU’s Arturo Dean earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2022-23 C-USA Players of the Week awards are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

Buffen put together a pair of double-doubles to lead the Blazers (15-7, 6-5 C-USA) to a 2-0 week. The senior picked up his first career weekly honor after averaging 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds last week, while shooting 46 percent from the field (12-26) and 40 percent from three (2-5).

Dean garners his third Freshman of the Week award in the last four weeks after his exceptional play helped the Panthers (11-11, 5-6 C-USA) to a pair of wins at home. He averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 assists, six rebounds and 3.5 steals per game, while shooting 47 percent from the field (8-17).

UAB 86  No. 19 Florida Atlantic 77

  • UAB’s Jelly Walker returned from a five-game absence and posted 13 points and six assists to help the Blazers snap Florida Atlantic’s 20-game winning streak.


LA Tech 80  Rice 72

  • LA Tech’s Cobe Williams has now scored at least 16 points in 13-straight games, the longest active streak of any C-USA student-athlete, after he tallied a team-high 20 on Thursday.


FIU 57  Charlotte 54

  • Thursday marked Denver Jones’ eighth 20-point performance in his last 12 games after the FIU guard finished with 22, including the eventual game-winning basket in the final minute.


WKU 81  UTSA 74

  • WKU’s Dontaie Allen’s 22 points marked a season high and his highest scoring output since March 11, 2021, when he had 23 against Mississippi State in his time at Kentucky.

No. 19 Florida Atlantic 67  Charlotte 52

  • Florida Atlantic bounced back with a road win at Charlotte, led by a combined 36 points on 63.6 percent shooting from Vladislav Goldin (15), Alijah Martin (11) and Brandon Weatherspoon (10).


WKU 74  UTEP 69

  • WKU’s Dontaie Allen followed up his season-high 22 point effort on Thursday with a career-best 25 points on Saturday. He posted season-highs in threes made (five) and rebounds (seven).


UAB 76  FIU 72

  • Five UAB players finished in double-digits, and KJ Buffen and Trey Jemison combined for 19 rebounds and eight offensive boards as the Blazers outrebounded FIU 46-28.


Middle Tennessee 84  UTSA 59

  • Middle Tennessee’s defense held UTSA to 3-18 shooting from three-point range while tallying nine steals and forcing 20 turnovers, the fourth time the Blue Raiders have forced 20+ turnovers this season.


North Texas 74  Rice 64

  • North Texas’ Kai Huntsberry led the way with 21 points as the Mean Green secured back-to-back double-digit win seasons in conference play for the first time since 2009-10 as members of the Sun Belt.

WKU’s Dontaie Allen and Rice’s Mekhi Mason earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2022-23 C-USA Players of the Week awards are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

Allen made the most of his first two collegiate starts, averaging 23.5 points and seven rebounds per game in a pair of wins for the Hilltoppers (13-11, 5-8 C-USA). His back-to-back games of 22 points or more marked just the second time a WKU player has accomplished that feat this season. Allen knocked down half his field goals (14-28) and three-point attempts (9-18) on the week.

Mason picks up his third Freshman of the Week award of the season after averaging 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Owls (15-8, 6-6 C-USA). He shot 57 percent from the field (8-14), 67 percent from three (4-6) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (9-12) all while averaging 35.5 minutes per game.

FIU 66  LA Tech 62

  • Thursday marked the ninth 20-point game for FIU’s Denver Jones at home after he tallied 21 points, including four in the final minute. The Panthers are 7-2 when he scores 20+ points at home.


Florida Atlantic 90  Rice 81

  • Vlad Goldin led Florida Atlantic in scoring for the second straight game after posting 19 points on 7-9 shooting. Alijah Martin and Johnell Davis each added 16 points for FAU.


WKU 93  Middle Tennessee 89

  • WKU’s Dayvion McKnight shot 10-18 from the field and a perfect 13-13 from the free-throw line for a season-high 33 points. The Hilltoppers shot 93.1 percent (27-29) from the free-throw line as a team.


North Texas 82  UAB 79 (2OT)

  • North Texas’ Kai Huntsberry tallied eight of his 15 points in the second overtime period to help the Mean Green edge UAB. He and Tylor Perry (28 points) combined to shoot 15-15 from the free-throw line.


Charlotte 62  UTEP 53

  • Charlotte conquered UTEP in a defensive battle, limiting the Miners to 1-15 from three-point range. Montre’ Gipson paced the 49ers with 15 points on 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Florida Atlantic 90  La Tech 85 OT

  • The Owls see a 15 point 2nd half lead evaporate, but get a pair of key three pointers from Alijah Martin down the stretch of the extra frame, along with free throws, to stave off the pesky Bulldogs and claim a program record for the most successive home wins (16).


UTEP 77  UTSA 66

  • A balanced scoring effort powered UTEP as five Miners finished in double-digits in the win, led by 12 from Tae Hardy and Jon Dos An-jos, who matched his career high tally.


MTSU 69  UAB 92

  • Ty Brewer finished the night with a season-high 24 points and 12 rebounds to headline a stellar offensive output by UAB.

Charlotte 43  North Texas 67

  • North Texas shot 59.5 percent as a team on Saturday, including 61.9 percent from the floor in a 40-point first half. The Mean Green also knocked down 8-of-11 three-point attempts in the opening 20 minutes.


Rice 85  FIU 78

  • Saturday marked the fourth time that Rice’s Quincy Olivari and Travis Evee scored at least 20 points, and the Owls are 3-1 in those games.

Florida Atlantic’s Alijah Martin and FIU’s Arturo Dean earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors.

Martin grabs his second Player of the Week nod after averaging 21 points and 5.5 rebounds in another 2-0 week for the Owls (24-2, 14-1 C-USA). He shot 69 percent from the field (11-16), 73 percent from three (8-11) and a perfect 12-12 from the free-throw line.

Dean picks up his fourth Freshman of the Week award after averaging 10 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Panthers (13-13, 7-8 C-USA). His 66 steals this season are tied for the FIU freshman single-season record and rank third nationally.
