Below is the American Athletic Conference baseball release for Thursday, February 29.

This Week in The American

East Carolina hosts the annual 21st annual Keith LeClair Classic and will entertain Purdue, Cal State Fullerton and Southeastern Louisiana. Rice hosts Stanford while South Florida travels to face in-state rival UCF.
 

In The Rankings

East Carolina is in all five national rankings this week and is as high No. 11 in the D1Baseball poll.
 

Tiger With the Power

Memphis ranks seventh in the nation with 20 home runs, led by Pierre Seals who has four, tied for the conference lead with UTSA's Caleb Hill.
 

Arms Starting Strong

East Carolina's pitchers ranks seventh in the nation in hits allowed per nine innings at 5.84 and 11th in both strikeouts per nine innings (12.3) and walks/hits per inning (1.05).
 

McCracken's Complete Game

Rice's J.D. McCracken threw a complete game at Louisiana on February 24. It was the first complete game for the Owls in nearly five years and is one of 12 thrown in Division I this season.
 

Byrd's Incredible Story

East Carolina's Parker Byrd made his collegiate debut in the Pirates' opener against Rider on February 16. Byrd has part of his right leg amputated following a boating accident in 2022. He became the first Division I player to play wearing a prosthetic leg.

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the third week of the regular season.
 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Caleb Hill, Sr., OF, UTSA

Hill hit .583 (7-for-12) with six runs scored, a double, two home runs and six runs batted in as the Roadrunners went 3-1 last week, including a midweek win against Houston and a series win over Grand Canyon. He drove in four and hit two home runs as UTSA came from behind to defeat Houston on Wednesday. The senior had three multi-hit games for the week and had three games with runs batted in.
 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Caden Favors, Sr., Wichita State

Favors pitched a complete-game shutout in an 8-0 win over Utah Tech on Friday in the Shockers’ home opener. He recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and scattered five hits and one walk over the nine innings.
 

HONOR ROLL

Carter Cunningham, Sr., INF, East Carolina

Cunningham hit .533 (8-for-15) with six runs scored, a double, a triple, three home runs and seven RBI as the Pirates went 2-2 last week.
 

Trey Yesavage, Jr., P, East Carolina

Yesavage shut down Purdue on Friday, throwing eight scoreless innings by scattering two hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters.
 

Jacob Compton, Sr., 1B/DH, Memphis

Compton hit .353 (6-17) with three runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI as the Tigers went 3-2 last week, including a series win over Wright State.

 
Gavin Schulz, Jr., INF, Tulane

Schulz hit .500 (6-12) with three runs, two doubles, one home run and six RBI as the Green Wave defeated New Orleans and swept Yale.

 
Camden Johnson, Fr., INF, Wichita State

Johnson hit .636 with six runs scored as the Shockers went 4-0 last week, including a sweep of Utah Tech.
