This Week in The American

Conference play continues Friday, April 19. UTSA leads The American by one game and hosts UAB this weekend. East Carolina, which is one game behind the Roadrunners, hosts Wichita State.
 

In The Rankings

East Carolina is all five national rankings this week and is as high No. 9 in the D1Baseball rankings and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25.
 

Pirates With the No-Nos

East Carolina pitchers threw no-hitters against Elon on April 9 and Charlotte on April 12. It was the first time since 1989 that Pirate pitchers recorded two no-hitters in the same week.
 
East Carolina is up to sixth in the nation in earned run average at 3.55, fifth in hits allowed per nine innings (6.88), seventh in strikeouts-to-walk ratio (2.91) and fourth in WHIP (1.19). Charlotte ranks seventh in strikeouts per nine innings (11.4)
 

Strong American Arms

East Carolina's Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman leads the nation in ERA (0.86), while teammate Trey Yesavage is seventh at 1.66. Yesavage is also fifth in strikeouts with 86, and Lunsford-Shenkman is sixth in strikeouts per nine innings at 15.21.
 

Roadrunners Rise in Rankings

UTSA's Mason Lytle is second in the nation in hits with 66 and hits per game at 1.83. Teammate Matt King leads the nation in sacrifice flies with nine.

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the 10th week of the regular season.

 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Carson Bayne, Jr., OF, Charlotte

Bayne hit .600 (9-15) for the week, scoring eight runs with four home runs and eight runs driven in as the 49ers went 3-1 last week, including a sweep in conference play over Memphis. The junior hit three home runs in Charlotte’s win on Saturday, and also hit one against No. 5 Clemson on Tuesday.


 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

C.J. Williams, Jr., Florida Atlantic

Williams pitched a nine-inning complete-game shutout against Tulane on Friday night. The junior scattered five hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

 

HONOR ROLL

Ryley Johnson, Jr., OF, East Carolina

Johnson hit .562 (9-16) with seven runs scored, a triple, a home run and five runs driven in as the Pirates went 4-0, including a sweep of Wichita State.

 
Trey Yesavage, Jr., East Carolina

Yesavage struck 15 Wichita State batters over 6.2 innings with three runs allowed in Friday’s series-opening win.
 

Treyton Rank, Jr., 1B, Rice

Rank hit .581 (8-14) with four runs scored, three doubles, one home run and eight runs driven in as the Owls swept South Florida.

 
Alexander Olivo, Sr., 1B/DH, UTSA

Olivo hit .462 (6-13) with the two runs scored, two doubles and four RBI in a 3-1 week for the Roadrunners.
 

Teo Banks, Jr., OF, Tulane

Banks hit .400 (4-10) with five runs scored, two home runs and four RBI as the Green Wave earned a series win at Florida Atlantic.
