American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Release - November 14

Post

Four American Athletic Conference teams are in action on Tuesday, November 14, including SMU hosting Texas A&M at 8 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+.

IN THE RANKINGS

Florida Atlantic has been tabbed No. 10 in the latest Associated Press Men’s Basketball Preseason Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll. Memphis is receiving votes in both polls.

PROTECTING THE BALL

SMU’s B.J. Edwards has started out the season by providing 17 assists through three games with only one turnover. That 17.0 assist-to-turnover ratio is tied for the nation’s lead with Stanford’s Jared Bynum and South Carolina’s Ta’lon Cooper.

DOUBLING UP

Temple’s Jahlil White has started off the season with a pair of double-doubles, including 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Owls’ win over Navy on Friday, November 10. It is the first time a Temple player has recorded back-to-back double-doubles since February 2020.

Florida Atlantic is tied for the second-longest active home win streak at 18. The Owls are tied with Liberty and UMass Lowell, and only UCLA (27) has a longer streak.

So far only one team stands out for me as competition for FAU and that is Memphis. UAB was a 17 point favorite tonight at home and needed late heroics and a complete mismanagement of the clock by Alcorn state as time winded down to pull off a win.

Thought they may be a consideration, but so far - nope. Maryland win means nothing when you can't put away teams you are supposed to beat handily at home.

I watched the Blazers game. They are not playing well right now. At least the coach sees it. He called out a few problems during his on-court interview after the game.

I'm sure the Blazers will get it figured out, but they need to get it done quick.

Hopefully the Tigers will look sharp tomorrow night against Alabama State. The Hornets are coached by former Tiger player and Penny teammate Tony Madlock. Madlock is a native Memphian who played his high school ball at Melrose in Memphis. He holds the record for most games played by a Tiger at 128.

I hope Wichita state keeps winning - they could be our hope for a 3rd bid AAC team

Good point. They're 4-0 to start the season. A couple of decent wins over Western KY and Coastal Carolina.

Hopefully Tulane continues to build from last season. It'd be great if they have a nice season.

I'm pulling for all our conference mates. That is, of course, until they play us. ;)

AAC is silently/not so silently flying under the radar in MBB. Personally  ,if everyone remains healthy, watch for a FAU-Memphis final that should be more like a sweet 16 match up. Love college sports.
