I don't believe that this will be an issue at FAU, but the lack of revenue is already hurting some of our conference-mates.
“Conference membership decisions need to be made” to reduce travel expenses and missed class time while generating more fan interest in the form of ticket sales.
I know its hard to understand and most just cant believe it…but MOST college athletic programs run at a HUGE deficit every year. Football programs aside from 30-40 of them out of 1,000 lose money. They are in place and paid for as a marketing tool. For some reason people believe all football programs profit a ton of money, I am not sure why…folks, its not the truth.
I understood Del. Kirk Cox's frustration nearly three years ago when he proposed tapping the brakes on state schools that were funding athletic programs on the backs of students.
At the time, he was appalled when he learned his son, a student at Longwood, was paying more than $1,700 in athletic fees.
It set limits on the percentage of a school's athletic program that can be funded by student fees. And while it's had little effect at Virginia and Virginia Tech, whose programs are fed largely through ticket sales and TV revenue, it has caused real pain at some mid-major schools, including Old Dominion and Norfolk State.
SOMETHING needs to kick in and make schools realize paying an OC/DC/even some position Coaches more than the College Pres. is just STUPID! Football IS NOT rocket science, many of these Coaches could only teach PE in High School!
