The Blazers, who will be making their 15th NCAA appearance in the program's 37th season, earned the automatic bid to the tournament by beating Middle Tennessee in the Conference USA Championship. UAB (19-15) is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011 and first under head coach Jerod Haase.
Iowa State earned the No. 3 seed and has posted a 25-8 overall record this year, including a five-game win streak. This is the Cyclones' fourth-straight NCAA appearance. It will be the first time the Iowa State and UAB programs will meet.
The winner of the UAB-Iowa State game will play the winner of No. 6 seed SMU vs. No. 11 seed UCLA on Saturday.

He brought him in yesterday to get geared up.
Pleasure to meet him. The guy won 8 championships in Europe. Scoop Jackson recently stated:
Bo Dukes is in the top 6 greatest basketball players from the city of Detroit...George Gervin, Magic Johnson, and Chris Webber also in that top 6.
We made him an honorary Owl yesterday and had him sign the wall!
