I think most of those are Division I schools. Their football programs may compete as FCS (Div 1-AA) if they have one.

You are right, I just never know what to call that lower level in basketball. SO odd to me not designated same from sport to sport. Thanks for helping enlighten me

UAB’s Jordan “Jelly” Walker and Rice’s Mekhi Mason earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors.

Walker was named the MVP of the Sunshine Slam after averaging 23 points, five assists and 4.5 rebounds per game in a pair of wins over South Florida and Georgia, the Blazers’ first win over an SEC opponent since 2010. He shot 42 percent from the field, 38 percent from three and 88 percent from the free-throw line in the event.

Mason enjoyed the best game of his early career with a game-high 25 points to help the Owls erase a 17-point deficit in a 76-67 triumph over cross-town foe Houston Christian. His 25 points are the most by a Rice freshman since former C-USA Freshman of the Year Marcus Evans posted 27 points in a loss to Charlotte at the C-USA Basketball Championship.

Jackson Threadgill’s buzzer-beating three-pointer secured Charlotte’s second-straight win at Davidson for the first time in the series since 1999-2000. Prior to his final shot, he was 0-5 from long range in the game.

Wednesday, Nov. 30

• Eastern Michigan 80, FIU 68

FIU’s Arturo Dean recorded his fourth double-digit scoring effort in a row off the bench with 14 points on Wednesday. He is averaging 13.7 points per game this season.

• Florida Atlantic 84, South Alabama 59

Florida Atlantic is the only school to shoot at least 60 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three-point range in a game against a Division I opponent this season.

• St. Bonaventure 71, Middle Tennessee 64

Middle Tennessee’s Teafale Lenard Jr. dropped a career-high 16 points and matched his career bests for rebounds (seven) and blocks (four) in the Blue Raider's loss.

• UAB 80, Jacksonville 61

UAB pulled down 20 offensive rebounds, led by KJ Buffen (five), Ty Brewer (four) and Trey Jemison (three). The Blazers led in second-chance points by a 22-7 margin.

• WKU 75, Austin Peay 74

Emmanuel Akot scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, shooting 6-8 from the field to help the Hilltoppers hold on for their fourth-straight win.

• Rice 70, Prairie View A&M 62

Rice out-rebounded Prairie View A&M by a 37-26 margin, thanks to a career-high 15 rebounds by Cameron Sheffield. The sophomore guard has 25 rebounds in his past two games after totaling just 13 in the first five games of the season.

• New Mexico State 95, UTEP 70

UTEP had a pair of players top the 20-point mark as Tae Hardy dropped a game-high 24 points, and Mario McKinney Jr. added 22 points off the bench. Each shot 7-13 from the field.

• Cobe Williams registered his third 20+ point outing in LA Tech’s past five games with 21 points on 9-16 shooting on Friday night. He is averaging 18.3 points per game on the year.

Charlotte 71, Appalachian State 62

• Charlotte outscored Appalachian State 40-20 in the second half to complete a 23-point comeback. The 49ers shot 14-22 (63.6 percent) from the field and 5-9 (55.9 percent) from three in the final 20.

Saturday, Dec. 3

Middle Tennessee 69, Maryville 46

• Camryn Weston had a standout day Saturday for Middle Tennessee with a game-high 12 points to go with eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.

UTEP 87, Northern New Mexico 50

• UTEP forced 27 turnovers on Saturday, bringing their season rate to an even 20 turnovers forced per game. The Miners logged 30 points off turnovers in the win.

North Texas 69, Omaha 46

• Saturday marked the sixth-straight game that North Texas held its opponent to 55 or fewer points, and the Mean Green limited Omaha to 31.4 percent shooting from the field and 11.8 percent from three.

• Jelly Walker posted 18 of his game-high 30 points and tallied five assists in the second half, helping the Blazers outscore South Alabama 47-37 in the final 20 minutes.

Florida Atlantic 101, Eastern Michigan 73

• Four Florida Atlantic starters finished in double-digits, led by Bryan Greenlee’s 23, and the Owls shot 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from three in Sunday’s commanding win.

Rice 83, Texas State 71

• Rice extended its win streak to five games, the longest by the Owls since the 2016-17 season, behind a career-high and game-high 30 points from Quincy Olivari.

Florida Gulf Coast 74, FIU 65

• FIU sophomore forward Mohamed Sanogo set career highs in points (23) and rebounds (eight) in his performance off the bench on Sunday.
