No dice, Charlotte falls to UAB 93-91 in 2OT. Of note, they didn't want to tie it and force another frame and opted to go for a three to win the game.

They can still clinch the 5th seed if Rice loses to FIU.

IF we win tonight, this will be your seeding for the Championship. Owls would take on the winner of WKU / La Tech Thursday at 6:30 PM.

I think UTEP would have the tiebreaker at #9 and La Tech #10 if they both finish at 7-13 because of their win against MTSU today (La Tech went 0-2 vs MTSU). I can’t say I fully understand the tiebreaker rules though.

MBB: North Texas, UAB Earn NIT Bids

or the second time in the last three seasons, Conference USA will be represented by two teams in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) after North Texas was awarded a No. 3 seed and UAB grabbed a No. 4 seed in this year’s field.

The Mean Green (26-7) will host SWAC regular-season champion Alcorn State (18-13) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Super Pit. The Blazers (25-9) will host Sun Belt regular-season champion Southern Miss (25-7) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bartow Arena.

North Texas is making its second-straight appearance in the NIT after falling to Virginia in overtime in the second round of last year’s event. UAB made the field for the eighth time in program history and the first since 2016. The Blazers own a 6-7 record all-time in the NIT.

The Mean Green boast the nation’s leading scoring defense (55.7) and rank among the top 30 Division I programs in field-goal percentage defense (16th, 39.8) and three-point percentage defense (28th, 30.6).

On the other end, North Texas is led by C-USA Player of the Year Tylor Perry, who led the league and ranked 14th nationally in three-point percentage (41.9), while averaging 16.8 points per game to help UNT to a program-record 26 wins.

UAB enjoyed a successful season thanks to its high-octane offense, which led C-USA and ranked 11th nationally in scoring (81.4). The Blazers also ranked among the top-25 Division I programs in free-throws made per game (12th, 16.8) and scoring margin (21st, 10.6).

Jordan “Jelly” Walker was the star of the show for UAB throughout the year, currently ranking second nationally in scoring (23.4) and three-pointers made per game (4.5). For the second-straight year, he was named to both the all-conference first-team and all-tournament team.

MBB: Charlotte, Rice Accept Bids to CBI

A pair of Conference USA squads are among the 16-team field for the 2023 Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational (CBI) as Charlotte earned the No. 3 seed and Rice nabbed the No. 12 seed.

The 49ers (18-14) will take on No. 14 seed Western Carolina at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and the Owls (18-15) will face No. 5 seed Duquesne at 11:00 a.m. Sunday. All CBI games will be played at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The two institutions will look to follow in the footsteps of Middle Tennessee’s run to the championship final of last year’s CBI. The Blue Raiders fell to UNC Wilmington, 96-90, in a double-overtime thriller.
