Florida Atlantic (38-15) is participating in its first C-USA Baseball Championship and will be the No. 2 seed.
Junior OF Brendon Sanger was named C-USA Player of the Year on Tuesday. He's started all 53 games for the Owls and finished the regular season leading the league in batting average (.377), walks (49) and on-base percentage (.494). He was second in hits (78) and runs scored (49), third in triples (4) and total bases (122), and seventh in RBI (44). Sanger became the all-time leader in triples at FAU with ten in his career, and has now reached base safely in 58 of FAU’s last 60 games.
Senior RHP Drew Jackson improved to 6-2 after the Owls' 6-4 win over WKU on Friday while lowering his ERA to 2.09 following a two-hit performance. In 60.1 innings pitched, Jackson has allowed just 14 walks while striking out 47.
The Monarchs (27-27) will enter the C-USA Championship as the No. 7 seed after winning six of their final nine games. Sophomore RHP Sam Sinnen and sophomore LHP Adam Bainbridge each posted ERA’s below 3.00 to lead the team. Sinnen was 6-2 with a 2.39 ERA and 51 strikeouts with just 11 walks in 60.1.
The Owls took two-of-three from the Monarchs in Boca Raton during the regular season. With a line-up shift, Brandon Rhodes gets the call on the mound for FAU. Rhodes went 5.2 innings, scatting six hits and allowing one run in the Owls' 8-2 win of game three on April 26th. FAU was on the losing end of a 15-3 result against Sinnen.
Weather could be an issue at times on Wednesday with a 50% chance of thunderstorms in the area.
