Notes

Owls

FAU prepares to take on cross-state rival FGCU for the first of a two-game set. The second matchup will be in Fort Myers on May 5th.

The Owls head into the midweek game after their sixth straight season opening series sweep. FAU beat Delaware 8-5, 9-5, and 8-2 in a rain-soaked set that saw multiple rain delays. Sunday's matchup was called after five innings due to poor field conditions.

In the Delaware series, John McCormack's ballclub put a man on base in every inning. This gives FAU a stellar on-base percentage of .496, placing the Owls sixth nationally.

Adding to FAU's offensive power, Andru Summerall, BJ Murray, Cade Parker, Mitchell Hartigan all went yard last series. Murray also collected a team-high five RBIs.

True freshman LHP Marc DeGusipe will got the nod to start on the mound. The Tampa Jefferson HS product was rated as the 16th best Class of 2019 LHP out of Florida, according to PerfectGame.

After this midweek matchup, the Owls will face Binghampton for a three-game weekend series before traveling to Tallahassee to take on Texas Tech and Florida State.

Eagles

Normally a power in the Atlantic Sun Conference, FGCU rides a five game losing streak dating back to their disappointing 0-2 effort in last season's A-Sun Conference Tournament.

Last weekend, the Eagles were swept by Tulane in New Orleans. Only Friday's season opener was close, with the Green Wave winning 4-3 before dominating FGCU 8-4 and 6-1 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

FGCU's poor run of form is shocking considering last year's 34-21 record, good to crown the Eagles an Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship. Still, A-Sun coaches selected the Eagles to finish second in the conference in 2020.

Adding to their preseason hype, four Eagles earned All-Atlantic Sun Preseason Team nods: SP Mason Studstill, C Alex Brait, 3B Richie Garcia, and DH Joe Kinker. Neither of the three fielders are hitting above .150 AVG after last weekend.

RHP Nikolas Bitner gets the nod despite giving up 3 ER on 3 H in 1.0 IP in FGCU's 8-4 loss on Saturday. His 3.11 2019 ERA made him one of the most reliable bullpen pitchers for FGCU.

The mid week games are very important at the end of the year. Getting to the magical 40 win mark  requires mid week wins. It is also key to finding out which pitchers  can be relied  on later in the year. Fgcu  is no push over.  They are 0-3 . But all three losses were to Tulane.  A great team.

Very much looking forward to this one. Will be great to get a look at freshmen lefty starter DeGusipe, who will be making his debut as an Owl. Was very impressed with INF BJ Murray in the opening series, the sophomore has a fluid swing and could be in line for a huge jump forward this season.

Solid first half inning for lefty starter DeGusipe. After giving up a base runner following an infield error. The true freshmen was able to hold station. Early on 2B Frankie Urbaez has been very vocal in the infield. Very smooth delivery from DeGusipe. 0-0 ballgame as we enter the bottom of the first inning.

Owls able to get some offense going as INF Wilfred Alvarez reaches base on a line drive single. Andru Summerall drew a walk. FGCU starting pitcher having issues consistently finding the strike zone early. Allowing BJ Murray to draw a walk as well. OF Mitchell Hartigan made contact on a ball hit in the infield, the ball was bobbled by the FGCU pitcher an FAU runner to score. A Nicholas Toney strikeout ended the inning. End of the first inning, FAU up 1-0 over FGCU

Very sound top half of the second inning for lefty starter DeGusipe. So far, the FGCU hitters are having trouble with the deception in his delivery. 3B BJ Murray made two very impressive catches. As we enter the bottom of the second inning, FAU up 1-0.

Owls unable to get anything going in the second inning. An Alex Arauz strikeout, a Cade Parker flyout. However, a single was hit by 2B Frankie Urbaez. The Owls are up 1-0 after two innings of play.

To open up the 3rd inning DeGusipe gives up a hit to FGCU OF Corey Clement, followed by a walk to FGCU OF Marc Coffees. A huge bit by Alex Brait brought in a run. Coach McCormack decided it was time to bring in reliever Jon Jon Kostantis. Many deep counts early on for lefty starter DeGusipe may have contributed to his short start. Kostantis walks his first batter. Man on first and second for FGCU. Two outs.

It confuses me why you just stop posting the game. ESPN doesn’t cover baseball scores so I check here and you just decide to stop after 3rd inning.
