Jackson Spiller's night wasn't so pretty today. He allowed eight hits and three earned runs in four innings…

Just one of those nights.  We seemed flat from the get go and a team like fgcu is going to jump on that. Plus they didn't play a midweek game this week.  Hopefully we can salvage the series, our usual Saturday pitching performances aren't gonna cut it this weekend.

After a statement win on Wednesday against No. 6 Florida, the 21st ranked FAU Owls had a dud of a game, falling 8-0 to the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles. The Owls were held to just two hits in today's ballgame.

The Rundown
  • Jackson Spiller had a disappointing start. He allowed eight hits and three earned runs, only striking out two batters.
  • B.J. Murray and Nolan Schanuel were the only two Owls with hits in today's ballgame. Schanuel went 1-3 with a walk, while Murray was 1-4.
  • Thomas Haggerty was the lone Owls pitcher to not have an earned run on his score line. He pitched a clean ninth inning and struck out a batter.
  • Sam Low made the best play of the game, making a diving play at second and throwing out the baserunner at first with a laser.
  • Jacob Josey and Bobby Morgensen are still day-to-day with their respective injuries. Joesey threw to0day, but there's no time table for his return.

"It's not disappointing, it's baseball. Let's give credit where credit is due, [FGCU Starter Mason Studstill] really threw well against a good offensive team. I think our guys pressed a bit and we've gotta pitch better. But I'm not disappointed." -head coach John McCormack.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow night at 5pm in Fort Myers for game two of the series. The game will be broadcast on FGCU's YouTube channel.

The owls laid an egg Friday night. The fgcu pitcher didn't seem over powering or anything else.  But he was never on trouble all night. The eagles almost had two more hr's  that hit high off the wall. Let's try again today

If it's any conciliation, FIU lost to Indiana State (next weekend's opponent) 11-2 last night…

Also, the league's pick for champ ain't killing it either. SMiss lost to Jacksonville State 6-0 at home.
