Notes

Huskies

Northeastern baseball began the season with a 10-0 loss to Alabama. Despite the blanking, they closed the gap from there out, dropping the remaining opening weekend slates by margins of 8-0, and 6-3.

Since then, they have won seven of eight straight games, including a series sweep over South Florida (10-0, 2-0, 7-5). Other wins include Villanova, Saint Louis, Eastern Michigan (2).

Despite a six run ninth to tie the game, Northeastern lost their midweek match up with Western Michigan 17-16 in a contest that resembled more of a football score. Ironically the offensive extravaganza only lasted 3:30.

Center fielder Jared Dupere had 4RBI in the loss and is currently pacing the the Huskies at the plate with a .413 batting average.

Catcher Teddy Beaudet is second on the squad with a .379 mark and was recently named the CAA Player of the Week after helping spark a 4-0 run for the team in which he tallied two doubles, a home run, six runs scored, and 4RBI.

Northeastern will toss their ace Sam Jacobsak (1-1, 1.89) on Saturday. Jacobsak has a team high 19 IP, with 21 set downs to go along with his .174 avg allowed to opponent's hitters.

Owls

While the Huskies (7-4) have had some solid outings thus far for 2020, they haven't seen the likes of #2 Texas Tech, #12 FSU, and #1 Florida - all of which account for the Owls (8-4) total loss count.

After dropping a well fought 7-3 battle against the #1 Gators on Tuesday night in West Palm, FAU rebounded to a resounding 11-2 dismissal of the #6 Miami Hurricanes to complete midweek action.

As we wrote about previously, they would be looking to recover both at the plate and on the mound following last weekend's series in Tallahassee, and it is more than fair to say that both missions were indeed accomplished as the team produced marked improvement in each area.

Backing this claim are significant upticks of a .286 team batting average (+.106) for the UF and Miami contests to compliment a 1.69 average ERA from relievers, with just five hits and two runs over 5.1 innings of bullpen action.

In consistent production fashion, four of FAU's predominant position starters have 8RBI on the year with two claiming 10RBI in that of Bobby Morgensen and B.J. Murray.

The Owls appear to be settling into a starting rotation, at least for now, and will employ the same set against the Huskies as they did in Tallahassee with the exception of moving RHP Corey Ireson to Saturday to counter NU's choice of starting their ace for that game.

The wind will be blowing out relatively hard for the duration of the series at FAU Baseball Stadium from north to northeast, and given that one might expect to see a fair amount of balls leaving the park. Dry conditions are also in the forecast with temperatures expected to be below normal for the final two games.

They’re not a bad ball club at all. They consistently have a very good RPI and win a good amount of ball games.

With that said… I realllly want a sweep this weekend.

Very sound first inning for FAU starter RHP Jacob Josey. The Palmetto HS alum showed solid fastball command which led to a 1-2-3 inning. INF Frankie Urbaez led off the inning with a walk, OF Bobby Morgenson reached on an infield error. Unfortunately the Owls were unable to capitalize. Scoreless ballgame at the end of the first inning.

Agreed! A sweep (especially after that four game skid) would be exactly what the doctor ordered!

Josey with another 1-2-3 second inning. The sophomore is showing solid stuff early in this one. To lead off the 2nd inning 3B BJ Murray hit a single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch, that was all the offense in that inning. FAU has been able to push Northeastern SP Kyle Murphy`s pitch count to 38. Still a scoreless ballgame in Boca Raton through two innings.

Northeastern able to put on two runs in the 3rd inning on FAU starter RHP Jacob Josey. Northeastern being more aggressive offensively. This should be no surprise to FAU as Northeastern scored 16 runs in their recent loss to Western Michigan. The Owls were unable to counter in the bottom half of the inning. Huskies winning 2-0 at the end of 3 innings.

Summerall got us through it with this put out. Hopefully we can make something happen in the fourth.

Very explosive 4th inning for the Owls with their bats. FAU able to manufacture runs and play station to station baseball. FAU starter RHP Jacob Josey has achieved a quality start, 5 innings and two runs. Owls winning 3-2 as we enter the bottom of the 5th inning.
