Florida Atlantic Head Coach Willie Taggart can mark one more item off of his class of 2022 bucket list, as the Owls have received a big addition in that of former Rutgers offensive lineman Brendan Bordner. With quality offensive tackles being in short supply this cycle, while also being an immediate area of need for the Owls, Taggart has added a critical piece to improving both the run game and pass protection.
Bordner caught immediate SEC and other attention after throwing his name into the portal. FAU was his first official visit stop on December 3rd, 2021 before heading north to take additional officials at both Kentucky and Vanderbilt. But in the end, the Owls won out.
While at Rutgers, Bordner played in 41 games overall, with 12 in 2021 including five starts on the offensive line. However, in his first two seasons for the Scarlet Knights he lined up on the other side of the ball, where he tallied 23 total tackles with 20 coming in his junior year (2019). Given this, he brings successful understanding of technique at a high level of play to the table from both ends of the spectrum.
In the classroom, Bordner was a four time Academic All-Big Ten award recipient.
Bordner's pledge also adds another highlight to the Owls' ultra productive December 10th weekend, which has now resulted in eight commitments being secured.
As of now, FAU has 14 scholarship members for the class of 2022. The Owls remain in pursuit of a signal caller for the class, as well as potential additions at defensive line and the secondary.
