Miami TE Michael Irvin II Transfers to FAU

The Owls have filled a significant team need through the portal.

After weeks of recruiting by the entire FAU staff, former Miami Hurricanes tight end Michael Irvin ll announced that he will be spending his final season in Boca Raton.

"Coach (Raymond) Woodie originally contacted me and laid out everything that is happening at FAU and how they want to keep a lot of things the same since they were winning,'' Irving said. "Coach (Jaron) Fariman, Coach (Willie) Taggart, and the rest of the staff all spent time recruiting with me.''

The 6-3 240 lbs framed tight end will add much-needed experience to a tightend room that is losing 103 catches, 1,347 yards, and 13 touchdowns from the 2019 season between Harrison Bryant and John Raine.

The former Hurricane caught nine passes for 78 yards as a sophomore in 2017 and was poised to have strong 2018, but a knee injury derailed his season.

In 2019 Irvin played in all 13 games catching two passes for 33 yards in a crowded tight end room with a dysfunctional Hurricanes offense and poor quarterback play.

Irvin will have to compete with three-star Juco tightened Lou Dorsey, and former three-star tightened Rahmod Smith, who redshirted in 2019.

"I want to show everyone what I am capable of, and FAU gives me a chance to do that."

FAU's coaching staff beat out Texas Tech, North Texas, ECU and others, who were all interested in Irvin's services.

Irvin will become the 4th younger relative of a Hurricane's alumni to be part of FAU's roster, joining Rashan Lewis (son of Ray Lewis), Jeff James (nephew of Edgerrin James), and Warren Sapp ll (son of Warran Sapp).

He won't just walk in and be the starter. He will need to earn it. Solid competition. But he has talent and experience. Chris Robison and the OC should be smiling.

Exactly my thoughts. it gives guys from P5 options to restart or get more playing time BUT it also allows P5 to poach the best away from everyone else! Wait til the players "sponsorship payments" start!!!!!
