Potential OL Transfer Blocked

Former Marshall offensive lineman Joshua Murriel was probing into a transfer to Florida Atlantic, but that's no longer an option. Murriel wasn't granted a release from Marshall and has instead enrolled at Bethune-Cookman.

Murriel pictured above at his 2012 signing day ceremony said earlier this week that Marshall wouldn't give him the necessary release to transfer to FAU, because of the school's recent berth into Conference USA. It's a common practice for schools to prevent departing players from transferring to another school within the conference – and that's the case with Murriel.

It isn't clear whether FAU's coaching staff would have been interested in Murriel at this point in time, but it's hard to ignore the lineman's size at 6-foot-5, 308 pounds.

Murriel was rated as a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com coming out of Port St. Lucie High School and took an official visit to FAU during the recruiting process. While at Port St. Luice he blocked for quarterback DJ Juste, who signed with the Owls this past spring.

Murriel claims that his decision to leave Marshall had to do with family issues and he was looking to play football closer to home. The redshirt freshman sat out all of last season and was expected to contribute this fall as a back-up. FAU will host Marshall on October 12th.
