2020 FAU Football Fall Camp

Post

Via SID Katrina McCormack, here are notables from Friday's camp session:

  • The linebackers worked on pass coverages, facing both tight ends and receivers, while the offensive line and running backs concentrated on the run game.
  • The defensive backs and wide receivers matched up on the west field where John Mitchell beat his coverage for an easy walk into the end zone.
  • Armani-Eli Adams nearly recorded an interception and six plays later he did by securing a pass in the end zone.
  • Ja’Marquis Johnson knocked a pass down in the end zone while Aaron Young caught a perfect pass to the end zone’s back right corner with one hand.
  • But the day went to Romain “Smoke” Mungin, who recorded not one, but two interceptions, including the INT that ended the day and secured the win for the defense.

Practice will resume on Monday after the players enjoy the weekend off.

Cook moved to corner? Did I miss that in one of the news dumps? Was that a too much depth here, not enough depth there, type, thing..?

Glover Cook posted on Instagram about a week ago he was still playing RB. Mungin switched to DB when he got here. Why FAU still lists him as a WR is beyond me. Same with Diamante Howard (who’s played safety for over a year).

Via SID Katrina McCormack, here are notables from Monday's return to the field after two days off camp session:

  • Linebacker Ja’Marquis Johnson, a newcomer, was credited with an interception during 7-on-7
  • Fellow newcomer Jackson Wenstrom, a tight end, made a leaping catch along the sideline for a gain of 20 yards
  • Redshirt sophomore Armani-Eli Adams, a safety, stripped the ball following a reception and had a 10-yard return
  • Junior cornerback Teja Young also had a fumble recovery
  • Following a break, the offense had one of their first explosive plays of the day when redshirt junior running back Daniel Leconte caught a deep pass for a big gain
  • Not too long after Leconte’s reception, the defense was credited with a sack
  • The team focus moved into the run game which saw sophomore running back Larry McCammon III put together a strong run, as did redshirt freshman quarterback Javion Posey

Via SID Katrina McCormack, here are notables from Wednesday's session:

The football team returned to the field Wednesday morning and moved through the paces as the squad begins to pick up the in-school work week schedule.

The Owls began with individual work with both sides of the ball working on ball protection. Following “Indy,” special teams work was on tap and was highlighted by a blocked kick. The Owls then moved into run-game work, focusing on the lines, while the quarterbacks, defensive backs and receivers worked the passing game.

For the second practice, the offensive coaches worked via headsets, putting the Owls through their 7-on-7 situational paces. Despite the action with the ball, cheers could be heard from the lineman area where junior lineman Alvin Dempsey III received back slaps and praise.

Wednesday’s practice came to an end with the offense winning the day’s competition and the defense on the line.

  • The day’s celebrations began with a pass from freshman quarterback Willie Taggart, Jr. to fellow freshman LaJohntay Wester. Wester beat his coverage and scampered into the end zone for a 50-yard score
  • Tight end Blake Goldberg was the next to record a big play by using his strength to power his way down the field after the catch
  • The Owls switched to field two for team 3rd down situational option work
  • Redshirt junior quarterback Nick Tronti eluded what the defense thought and lobbied to be called a sack, to connect with redshirt junior wide receiver Jefftey Joseph for a score.
  • The next play was a quick pass by Tronti to sophomore receiver Yanez Rogers for a 12-yard gain, followed by a no-doubt series-ending sack and Ashton McNeal, a sophomore corner, breaking up a pass for a change of possession.
  • Prior to a focus switch to special teams work, the defense was credited with another sack
  • FAU then moved to two groups of team operating at the same time but on opposite ends of the field
  • Group one, the defense recorded a stop
  • The second group saw junior running back Malcolm Davidson power through the line for a 20-yard run followed by a quarterback keeper by redshirt junior Javion Posey
  • Staying on the same end of the field, Taggart, Jr. hit a diving Ryan Cameron, a redshirt freshman, and both were greeted with cheers upon returning to the line
  • Tronti kept for a gain on the next play and then hit Joseph and followed it up with a TD pass to Rogers
  • The most explosive play of the day came from redshirt junior running back Daniel Leconte who broke out a 70-yard scoring run
  • Tronti found Young to move the chains and then tossed a 10-yard pass to redshirt senior James Charles who used his legs to take it the rest of the way
  • The day’s final celebration came from the defensive coaches as they complimented freshman Chris Jones on a quarterback pressure on which he also batted down the pass attempt

Practice will resume on Thursday morning.

Is this right? Javion Posey is a redshirt Junior already?
