FAU Football's Linebacker Situation Heading into 2020

Post

FAU got some more bad news regarding an already very thin position.

Linebacker Hosa Barnwell has entered the transfer portal per the Rivals NCCA Portal Tracker.

Barnwell had 57 tackles last year rotating as the thrid backer.

Barnwell's possible departure along with the status of Akiles Leroy still up in the air, the Owls linebacking core could be a major hole going into the season.

Senior Caliph Brice, who had 28 tackles, and Sophmore Eddie Williams will most likely enter camps as the starters.

I knew we were a bit thin. But Smith,  Leroy,  and now this really shines a light on it.  Maybe we Just need to out score everyone

They also got Florida Tech LB Evan Thompson as a grad transfer and he was awesome there. He’ll be here in the coming weeks.

Jim Leavitt has a tough task on his hands. Of course, it could be for naugh if there’s no season…

 Fingers crossed on a season!

Tough break. Especially as we're set to begin a new scheme with FOUR linebackers. I wonder if there will be any talk about a modification to Leavitt's 3-4 base defense.

If we were worried about the backers before the presser did not give me any more confidence.

Leroy is still TBD.

If we go from having two NFL type backers to Brice ( who is kinda out of position in the middle) and Eddie Willimas who have never started a game, it could be ugly for a bit.

GSU might look like the Navy game.

I believe Brice is going to have a breakout year. What he needs is more reps. The more reps he gets, I believe the better he becomes. He can cover and has range. He's played mostly on the outside in coverage if you look at his Jucco film. He can also play inside easily

WELL HOT DOG!!! The good news we've all been waiting for: Keke Leroy IS BACK!

Leroy's return is a MASSIVE boost to the LB depth.

This make me happy for two reasons. First I love it when a young person has an issue and can correct the issue to be given another opportunity. Whatever that issue may be. Second, Leroy was and is my favorite defensive player on the squad. His aggressiveness  and violence on the field is old school. He plays the way I was taught.  I assumed he was gone and was happy with the defensive recruiting. Getting him back is a huge cherry on top. Welcome back Keke.
