FAU Program vs UCF Program Talk

Post

rob2313 said

Honestly, FIU has a bigger student body, better location, better academics so if FAU does not get moving what happened to UCF when USF got the invite to BE might happen to FAU.

The real question is will FAU be ready for a call up to AAC if UCF leaves.† IF FIU improves their FB stadium, they easily leapfrog FAU, that is something we should be scared of.

Now we are talking, bigger student body, yes but nobody goes to their games. If FAU has an issue with attendance, we could say FIU is way worse and it will NEVER grow because of its demographics. Better location? not sure what you mean by better location, proximity to airport? size of population? or physical main campus address…. all 3 are debatable, FIU is 11 miles away from MIA and FAU is away 26 miles from FLL and 23 miles from PBI, population? yes, Miami has a bigger population but you could have the population of Tokyo and if nobody goes to your games, does that really matter? Campus size? FIU is 300 acres, FAU is 850 acres. FIU campus surrounding areas are ugly as hell, miles, miles and miles away from the beach. FAU area is way nicer and 1.8 miles from the beach. We will see when they will improve that stadium, but as a football program overall FAU is better and everybody knows it. Your I4 war series is  7usf vs 6ucf, our shula bowl series is 12fau vs 5fiu. You can say whatever you want about UCF, I have no problem with that, but don't tell me fiu program is better.

How do you know UCF is going to the P5?

How about you watch ESPNU on Saturday for 28 hours. †Nothing but UCF resume

And I just want FAU to get a couple of live games on ESPN U.

Thanks for posting Rob.

UCF fans have been discussing moving up for a decade. The requirements are dependant on the conference.

But all I mentioned are important.

Academics is bigger factor than I would ever of thought.  That explains Tulane and Tulsa in AAC.
Revenue is most important across all conferences.  Take your average P5 team then remove their conference earnings and that is the baseline for revenue.
Airport size is big deal, it is why ECU didn't get invited into AAC in round 1 and only FB only the 2nd round.
Of course, being in FL is big deal but FIU has a better location.

Best to increase revenue which helps with Marketting, recruiting, and coaches

Better location? Miami Dade Recruitng which is best country. †Sorry but Palm is about as good as Orange, still very good but Miami dade is best.

not sure what you mean by better location, proximity to airport? Airport due to access and having to bus players to and from with an escort (which costs $$$)

size of population? Urban college is better, being in Boca really hurts for FAU.Urban can become a college atmosphere faster.

or physical main campus address…. all 3 are debatable, FIU is 11 miles away from MIA and FAU is away 26 miles from FLL and 23 miles from PBI, population? yes, Miami has a bigger population but you could have the population of Tokyo and if nobody goes to your games, does that really matter? Honestly, if FIU put 30 Million into its FB stadium it would leapfrog FAU fast. †You forget FIU got the CUSA invite before FAU. ††FAU location has its advantage but FIU location makes it the next sleeping giant.

Many of FAU positives that state are positives for students/Fans but College Presidents do not care about beaches.

Only one ''G5'' has ever been "called up" and that was TCU who has money out the out the wazzu and the Big 12 took big losses in Nebraska and Colorado.

Boise State has been a top program for nearly two decades and no one has called.

The Powers at the top of college football does not want new friends or to share.

The only time changes happen in conferences in large numbers is when TV deals expire.

If UCF ever does leave do not expect Houston or Cincy to stick around when the TV contract is cut because FAU or FIU joins.

A jump to the American for FAU will be like out jump to C-USA that has Tulane, ECU, and Memphis.

Boise State has been a top program for nearly two decades and no one has called.

The Powers at the top of college football does not want new friends or to share. You are correct unless it benefits them but when they think their $ might decrease like what happened when UCF got called up.

The only time changes happen in conferences in large numbers is when TV deals expire.  Yes and they are about to expire in 2025 which start negotiates 2-3 year before hand.

If UCF ever does leave do not expect Houston or Cincy to stick around when the TV contract is cut because FAU or FIU joins.  "unless it benefits them but when they think their $ might decrease" If their choice is FAU or LA-Monroe, they will go FAU.  They will not be happy, just like S.Miss and Marshall are not happy with CUSA.

A jump to the American for FAU will be like out jump to C-USA that has Tulane, ECU, and Memphis.

What about UTAH?  What about L-ville?  Anytime a school 'upgrades' it is called up.

Boise - same issue as always its academics, location and academics.  Academics kills BSU, Presidents hate that they used to be a community college.

BYU - religion and mission go in the opposite direction of college President thoughts.
Liberty - See BYU

FAU problem with jumping to American will be revenue, and fans.

1) Fans If you think my posts are annoying, imagine 50 of me and not as pleasant, telling you all the ways you need to improve.

2)Revenue even though you would get an increase in conference earning you would be moving to a more expensive neighborhood and your budget would have to go up 2 for every 1 of earnings.   This is why revenue is more important.  The expectations of what is normal would be different, from Pressroom food to visiting team lockers.

I stand corrected.

Still three in the last 25 or so years…….

It is hard to move up.

Look at a program like Houston who has had a storied football program in a major market yet has never moved up.

Also, academics have little to do with it.

Lousiville was a mid-level commuter school 20 years ago.

In the end, it's about money and if your school can not make the big boys in each conference more they do not care how many top 25 wins you have.

UCF is challenging the system and will be black balled for A while. Boise should be in the PAC-12 and yes they were called up but screwed after the Big East was dissolved. †

Money is the only factor, FAU just needs to win. †Our goal and it should be a process or mission is to fill out our stadium. We need bigger named teams to play us at home. Our tickets are reasonable in
Price but we need marketing. †We need to build awareness, we need to stick to certain things unique to us. †

For example the #cometothefau hash tag by Kiffin was genius, it †should have been used
More. But dropped dead for what #winningjnparadise which i still like but needs consistency. †We need incentives to have families come to games like Bobble heads, or promotional items to keep fan engagement high. †These little things are apart of the big picture. †I see FAU in the American, †you would be surprised how many people know about our program. †

I was in Barcelona and got stopped, Omaha, NE and people mentioned and said positive things about FAU. †It takes time but getting better, †Kiffin changed that for us, †we need to maintain it.

FAU is known lol. We have 30,000 students from all over the world, we are not a small school by any stretch of the imagination. I live in the NE, I can't tell you how many HS Seniors apply to FAU. I agree with a lot of Rob's points, but one I don't agree with is Orlando > Boca. I think most people prefer South Florida to Central Florida.

Iíve seen so many FAU license plates lately itís crazy. Ive mentioned it but now itís a lot. Thereís been times Iíve seen multiple FAU license plates within minutes. Thereís something going on. The last few times I was on campus I couldnít believe everyone was wearing FAU gear. Three years has made an incredible difference and Iím sure Kiffin will be in the HOF for the County and FAU.†
I obviously donít know whatís going on, but there had to be a reason why UCF challenged the system. The only thing that makes sense was that they knew theyíd never get invited to the P5. Houston is a perfect example of a college that hasnít made it to the P5. Why, I donít know. But I think it might be because of how ambitious some of these schools are. Maybe teams like Utah and Louisville and TCU wonít have this take on the world mentality. But that is pure speculation and I probably donít know what Iím talking about.†

Ucf has had more success but SoFla (and Boca) right now are the place to be.

Also we are the same distance from two airports as ucf is to the one in the “same town.”

Something that goes unnoticed in these discussions: donor money. We don’t have the quantity, but we have the quality. Certain FAU donors would drop 100 million on certain things if they had to. Imagine if they got their friends involved. No other g5 in Florida has that luxury.

I love FAU. I love Boca. I love the strides we have taken. If our fate is crushing every CUSA team for the next few decades and the occasional NY6 bowl appearance (or win), then sign me up.

(And this is coming from someone with degrees from FAU, Miami, and Florida. I BLEED RED AND BLUE.)†
