Observations Marshall Game

Post

Marshall is our Troy of the CUSA,  the only time we beat them we got the conference title. Same with Troy we beat them in 2007 and at That time they always had our number.  One thing is a for sure, FAU always loses on prime time or big time games,  we only win if it’s a bowl game and I am happy we are 3-0 in that regard.  This is one of the worst Marshall teams I have  seen under doc Holliday, but he  is a great motivator as he is a coach. He finds matchups and makes great adjustments, they almost beat Boise on the road on a Friday night a few weeks ago.  That being said the Oline is atrocious,  Robison running for his life is getting old!
We have decent backs but they are still learning, Bryant needs to get more involved and we need better adjustments or a better game plan.  Last night was winnable and we missed a chance to steal a game. The refs are really bad, the main ref I swear had Marshall with the points lol.  Overall lots of missed calls and most calls were against FAU,  it’s like we are the road team at home to me it’s pitiful.  We need out of this conference if we want to be respected and relevant. We should’ve won last night, but the last play with Robison was so ill advised. He sails the ball in the air sometimes and in this case it was a terrible route and not enough zip on the throw and game over.  He’s got a lot to learn,  he has grown on me and without him I don’t think we stand that much of a chance in games.  TBH We don’t win the CUSA and if we do it would be a miracle, some kind of run but I don’t see that with this team.  Since last year it’s been on and off switch and not as much consistency.   I think we end up 8-4 but realistically 7-5.  We can easily be 9-3 but games like Southern miss and WKU will be just like this Marshall game.  The defense was good within our 4 game winning  streak, but we blew a lot of coverages and missed chances at fumbles and such in this game. What is the overall problem with FAU?  Do you think it’s the Oline,  play calling, body bag scheduling at the beginning of the year, lack of depth, Kiffin, Robison?

I think it’s a little bit of all that. I’ve been saying the Body Bag games need to end. Period. We should be making enough money now from TV contracts, Boca Bowl and Student Fees to offset the need for these stupid games. The lack of depth might also be catching up to us. I know McCammon hasn’t been 100% since Ball State and behind our starting trio of WRs, we have basically nobody. I also think we need to stop playing Dante Cousart and put at minimum a fast DB in to return punts. We already know he will not do anything with the ball in his hands. The Oline is pretty young I think we graduate two this year on Diaz and Walton but hopefully next year with a little experience they will be better. I predicted this team would go 8-4 with a Bowl Win at the beginning of the year and that is probably still the case but maybe 7-5 is more realistic as those games against WKU and So. Miss look scary now. Maybe we can give Javion Posey a shot or two. I think Robison is too up and down
