Pitbull Buys Naming Rights to FIU Stadium

Post

UTSA lost the QB and Coaches, Army was 6-6 including TWO (2) wins over FCS, ECU was 2-10, Michigan State was 4-8.

So all 4 you mentioned are, to me, winnable games IF we play good ball. Much better ball than last year will be required though!!!

Gotta say what I loved about Lane is the STYLE we played gave us an edge over better teams and put FUN in the game for, most importantly, the players. But also for the fans.

I am hoping Coach H. gets us going this year. Move the team, move the ball and play at a tempo WE want to, not theirs.

We don't have the size overall so we gotta use the team speed and tempo we had and should have.

I don't know if many people will agree, but it is also a matter of value. FIU is getting some money we are not, but they are going to devalue their product. I prefer people talking about us because of the Final 4 and a good product on the field rather than Pitbull getting a tax break helping the poverty school down south. Most college fans already think we don't have much value because we are young, I like the fact that White is not supporting that image by cheapining (is that a word?) our value.

We have to be patient, I always like to do the exercise of asking myself: How were most bigger schools doing after 25 years of football? Unless they are bluebloods, really just average.

If you cannot see our progress and be supportive of a great AD, then maybe you should be a fan of Ohio State, Notre Dame, or Georgia.

I think we need to beat FIU and USF by a lot and take care of business with all the other games. Right now we are a 10pt underdog against Michigan State, and that is with a brand new team in most skill positions. Lets beat them.

I loved the Kiffin era, but do we remember the game against Oklahoma? I was there. It was bad. We did not beat a P5 team during those 3 years. He had a great team inherited from Partdrige and was just a much better coach than his competition in CUSA. Let's be real, even without the teams that left, the competition in the AAC is much better.

I'm very hopeful for this season. We have a coach that honored the scholarships offered by the previous regime and did not leave any player hanging. I respect that. Now I'm sure we will see a much more competitive team and a real darkhorse for the AAC title.

If you want to complain in such a demanding manner, then I hope you are donating a lot of money. If not, lets support the team.

"If you want to complain in such a demanding manner, then I hope you are donating a lot of money. If not, lets support the team."

Not sure if this is directed at my post.  But if it is, donated money I have and continue to do so.  And whether its time, money, resources, etc I assure you I have been supporting the team since I started at FAU in 2001.

Yes, I demand that we compete with other AAC teams.  Yes, I demand that we do better than 4-8.  Yes, I demand we rid ourselves of weak excuses.

It was not directed at you, it was more to people that like to say "Mr. White you are on the clock!" and things like that.

I think we can criticize and demand those things that you say… but from there to say the White should be out of the school or that everything is a total failure, its different.

I also want a winning team, and don't like weak excuses either. But the truth is that Kiffin did not have to do a total rebuild personnel wise.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood my comment.

White's administration has raised more money than any AD before him, it's not even close.

What exactly are you basing this opinion on?

When will FAU host their next Power 5 opponent in Boca, somewhere north of 2032 against Misssouri. FIU has hosted more Power 5 teams at their stadium and schedule better. What about marketing, the winning in paradise I get it was all white but no giveaways.

It’s like we are not even trying. If our NIL was somewhat ok why did May tuck his tail and leave dodge and other players left?  I feel we are ok with mid, mediocre and saying white has done a great job but the truth is we need to aspire for more and I feel he’s stagnant now.

Soo baseball gets a paint job and a few things fixed, still poor standards for the AAC and D1.  Hear me out that swimming team locker room is a complete shame and white should take a look at that and fix it.  It’s not even up to code. The final four bought him time to continue poor scheduling, lack of promotional ideas, and to price gauge fans for a subpar product on the field.

Ohh yes the fanfest is at 9 am on a Saturday, way to get as many people to show up. USF, FIU are making moves, like I said if FiU had an inkling of our success we would have fallen back to fcs and them who know further.

This post could not bemore off base. White is one of the best things to happen to our fine university.

Fundraising and structural changes to the athletic department have been through the roof - even before the Final 4.

White is one of the reasons we got into the AAC, which has proven to be a huge step up. So switch out “hosting Power 4 teams” (there is no Power 5) and put in the opponents we have hosted in the AAC: Tulane, ecu, Army, usf. All of those schools bring just as many (if not more) than many P4 schools.

3 games this year (2 AAC and fiu) are tracking for north of 25k.

Our NIL budget is AMAZING. We only “lost” 1 player for NIL. The players we brought in would surpass everything we lost - except that 1 player (Davis). We are never going to compete to keep a player like Davis - unless you plan to donate $1 million for 1 year of a player. The other players left for other reasons - we could have matched the NIL. What we brought in will be a VERY competitive squad - and in some ways better than last year’s team. The facts are that FAU is in the position to have gone to a Final 4, made an at large, hire the hottest up and coming coach, and bring in a wildly talented transfer class. All of us thought NONE of those things were possible.

If you want to see such a change, then be the change you want to see. How many people have you encouraged to go to games or get season tickets? Do you donate? Do you encourage others to donate? What have you contributed to NIL?

FAU is in great hands and trending up in literally everything in a time where many would have thought we would fall behind. I am wildly impressed by our ability to keep up with the changing times.

Quick we are to forget we come from Angelos (only cared about balancing the sheets) and Chun (did not want to let anyone touch the field and wanted Bobby Wilder over Lane Kiffin). Brian White hired Dusty May and Tom Herman here.

You bypased the answer on the crappy swim team locker room that fans at baseball games are kind of subjected to and maybe the swim team themselves.  Its been the same since I went to school years ago, terrible and like I said not up to code and should be shut down.  Next, other schools are making waves and I feel as a fan base we allow excuses to consume us.  Winning teams don't allow that, or winning programs don't take no for an answer.
UCF is where they are because they fulfilled an upward trajectory that consisted of success in football/athletics and focused on university growth.

Check the past schedules, FIU has hosted more Power 5 teams at home than we have and put up a fight in some of those games.  We position ourselves as the body bag team, we get paid big to get boatraced on national tv.  We never compete to win Power 5 games, White doesn't schedule us to win or bring those teams to Boca to give us a chance to have a home crowd.  That is pitiful, that sounds like he has no bargaining power, he has no say and takes what is given to us or him. OHH want to play LSU, sure come to death valley 3 times and get pulverized at a night game.  The moment he asks for a home game in Boca they laugh in his face, like I said no bargaining power.  A real AD would fight for 1 and 1 games or even 2-1 games and have our home crowd experience more of a full stadium experience.  The UCF games come to mind, the stadium was soo packed years ago we failed to operate because it was new to us.  USF scheduled Bama for a 1and1, hmmm makes you wonder.

Playing Tulane and Army is not the same like playing a National Power 5 team and winning, you are comparing eggs to oranges.  What grabs more headlines, FAU defeating UF or sorry Tulane who is kinda ok for now but has been terrible for like ever.  Long story short we need to start winning big games, since they will always be on the road those upsets are far in between.

Donating is one thing, but like I mentioned some things are still falling apart.  We live in Boca, White cant find some hedge fund  billionaire to fall in love with the school and hook us up. In school we all payed a higher athletic fee to fund these sport programs. I have been a season ticket holder over the last few years, I buy fau gear, I talk about FAU with non football fans and that speaks volumes.  Me inviting or talking about fau to a non fan and flipping them to come to a game with me is a win, rather than me giving thousands of dollars.

The initiative should be to convert non fans into fans and make them loyal and if you win they will all come, die hards, new fans, fans that are casuals because they want to be apart of something special. Long story short we can do way better, if we are serious about the next move we need an AD than is a salesman than can move the needle.  We need someone better, WE NEED A VISIONAIRY! White did his service, he has peaked.

Here is why 1-1's are tough for any G5.

FAU financially has to play a money game. If someone wants to donate an extra 1.5 every year to bypass that game then go ahead.

When you schedule 1-1's vs P5 the year you make the return trip you still have to schedule the money game in the same season.

So if you host P4 in 2025 then you OCC probably looks something like this :home FCS, home P4, away P4 and away G5.

If your return game is in 2026 now you have  home FCS, away p4 (return game), away p4 (money game), home G5.

Getting stuck play away at two P4 stadiums is tough.

Tulane goes to OU and LSU this season. OU being a return game from 2021.

Also consider with these mega conferences going to 9 conference games some schools are less likely to take a chance going to play on the road at G5. The schedules are difficult enough.

“ Playing Tulane and Army is not the same like playing a National Power 5 team and winning”

Army is a big draw for any school just because it’s Army when they come to town. UTSA Army sold out last year in the Alamodome and it was a spilt crowd because of the army base in San Antonio. When we played navy at home we had a decent size crowd for that one because of navy vets coming to the stadium to see their service academy play. It’s the same with Army. Army isn’t P4 but they got P4 pull just because of the name.

I was about to respond to this post line by line, but then I realized how woefully off base it is on all levels. Seems like you have something personal against Brian White.

I have me spoken with him probably 100 times. Many times one-on-one. I have seen him interact with big boosters. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART: Brian White blows everyone who we would replace him with out of the water. Not even close.

I am close with big boosters at many P4 programs and they all speak very very highly about Brian White. In fact, they are all surprises we have been able to keep him for so long. Industry-insiders consistently praise Brian.

I am one of the only baseball season ticket holders. Could care less if we get working bathrooms. Would it be nice to have a better baseball stadium? Sure, but that is very low on the list of priorities.

Listing all of these things as Brian White’s fault with how far our fine university has come under him - especially compared to his predecessors.

Would be more helpful to focus on all of the positives.

Tulane just went to a NY6 bowl and has historically been very good (multiple SEC championships). The move up in conference vastly improved our home slate. To state otherwise is a gross misunderstanding of the machinations of college football.

Fiu is able to host those games because, for one reason, those teams want to get into the Miami market - this is first hand knowledge. Also please don’t compare us to fiu without mentioning that they were far ahead of us in 2008 and the script has absolutely flipped: we moved up in conference and have all of the national attention.

The university is on the up-swing. The administrations at schools around the state (fiu, ucf, usf, Miami) all have very very positive things to say about us behind closed doors.

The other post about Oklahoma… I was there too. Went into it so confident. Look at the players that were on that roster - almost all NFL starters on both sides of the ball!

You want to complain about something? Complain about wasting money on the rebrand. that is a legitimate gripe worth your while.
