WR Donovan Giles to the portal. Made no appearances for the Owls in 2 seasons, being a reserve in the receiving corps.

Im guessing a lot of the guys that are going into the transfer portal right now are doing so because they wont have a starting position this season.

Agreed!
This is the coaches arm around the shoulder time and whispering in the ear “may be a good time to look at the portal and see what is available”.
Also often frees up a scholarship.

Jude Okolo is the next Owl to go portaling. Played one season for us after transferring from Illinois State; served as a backup throughout the 2023 campaign.

Josh Moore is in the portal as well, having served as a backup in the secondary for the Owls.

Honestly it’s stuff like this that makes me appreciate Tyriq Starks or one of former RBs James Charles in the Kiffin years. Guys who could’ve transferred but stuck it out and developed and became key contributors like Starks has a chance to do this season.

Folks think / say Fancher is the guy, but IMHO one bad day and Starks will be in there faster than a knife fight in a phone booth.

Of course there is also still a lot of time to potentially add another cog to the equation through a portal acquisition if they choose to do so.

I thought Starks looked like the more patient and polished QB in the spring game Fancher had a little “gun slinger” to him that comes with as many head scratchers as exciting plays IMO

Next player in the portal is Kyler Laing, who transferred from Buffalo this past offseason.

Amari Wansley has entered the portal. Got plenty of reps last season due to injuries in the secondary.

A key defender in Latrell Jean has entered the portal. He has been with the team since 2019; will be interesting to keep track of him since he was supposed to step up as a probable starter following Evan Anderson's departure.
