Wow, What a win!!!!!

Dusty May starts 3 freshmen and wins in a Big Ten arena.  Very impressed with how the Owls played with a short bench. F Madiaw Niang continues to improve.  First career double double today.  His rebounding ability was one of the keys to the upset.  F Jaylen Sebree injured his ankle this week in practice, and played over 35 minutes today.  Though he did not do much on the offensive end, his length at wing against a Big Ten squad is very important. What a day for Senior Guard Anthony Adger, 27 points and 4 rebounds.  He was very aggressive offensively, taking advantage of some sloppy defense by Illinois.  Adger`s ability to put his head down and drive to the basket helped keep FAU`s momentum.

Turnovers are still a huge issue with the Owls, 20 turnovers today is very disappointing.  Yes, it is expected with such a young squad.  If the Owls want to be competitive in conference play they will need to clean this up. Looking forward to seeing what this team is like once at full strength.  Forward Xavian Stapleton, C Karlis Silins are still injured.  F Jaylen Sebree is still not 100%.

Great win for FAU basketball, and fantastic publicity for the university.

That is a great win!

Exciting.  Keeping my expectations in check due to injuries but I am excited for conference play.

GO OWLS!

Yes, we just got home. As soon as the game ended we had to get out of there as soon as we could. It was really crowded, lots of traffic and our dogs were alone in the house for 6 hours. It’s an hour drive plus the half hour to get out of the parking lot.

The only FAU fans I saw were on the big video screen. The camera found them. A couple of young girls wearing FAU sweatshirts.

Dusty May had high praise for Anthony Adger after the senior's career high 27 points vs. Illinois.

What I don’t understand is how a team that beat AAC UCF and Big 10 UI also lost to BCC and AK State.

FAU looked sloppy out there at times. Several times the guy with the ball got cornered and couldn’t pass it. UI played a good defense. FAU has a hard time getting inside in the first half and when they did they missed the close shot.

It wasn’t always pretty but a win is a win.

Hopefully the things I mentioned were freshman inexperience.

The Buchanan File:

Craig Buchanan (1995-1998) ranks first in career field goals made (582), and was the first men's basketball player in the Florida Atlantic University history to surpass the 1,000 point plateau (1,501).

Buchanan set the tone for a team making the transition from Division II to Division I. As freshman during the program's first season as a Division I member, Buchanan was the main offensive threat.

Responding to the challenge of playing the country's best talent during his four-year career, which spanned 105 games, he was instrumental in the program's improvement from a 3-24 record during his freshman campaign to a 16-11 record and nearly winning a conference championship his senior season.

Buchanan connected on 172 field goals in 1995-96 and sits atop the FAU all-time leaders with 582 baskets in his career.

Defensively, the guard/forward is also listed among the program's top rebounders with a career total of 422. In 1994, Buchanan led the team in field goal percentage (.474), free-throw percentage (.770) and three-point percentage (.400).

He also led the team in scoring average his sophomore through his senior seasons.
