End of Athletic Year and Improvements to FAU Athletic Facilities

With athletics winding down with the College World Series beginning, time to look back on the athletic year for FAU as well wish list for improvements to facilities.

1.) Football went into the season with high expectations under first year Coach Partridge with many of the same starters returning from the 6-6 season. Yet the team was 3-4 half way through the season and lost 5 straight and were not bowl eligible. Yet despite the setback, D'jon Smith became highest Owl drafted in the NFL draft, as well as several other Owls signing NFL contracts as Free Agents to attend camps. A very good recruiting class helped to fill holes in key positions as well as the coaching staff is looking at players to step up to fill key leadership roles. August will bring some interesting position battles.

2.) Men's and Women's basketball had a different seasons respectfully. Men's basketball under first year Mike Curry started the season well but injuries and failure to close out or poor play lead to a disappointing season. Women's basketball under coach Jay made post season play yet lost in the conference tournament and failed to secure a NCAA or NIT berth. Transfers and graduation may hurt both teams, yet some incoming players and as well as some of the younger players are going to be looked at to step up their games as well as fill vital roles. Prediction: some improvement for Women's basketball as well as Men's basketball, but conference championship probably still out of reach.

3.) Men's baseball and Women's softball did very well in both of their season's earning conference tournament berths and regional berths. Men's baseball finished 3rd behind MTSU and Rice, and fell in the semi-finals of CUSA tourney. Owls baseball earned a regional berth by going to Gainesville and losing to Top seeded Florida in the Regional final. Women's softball made the CUSA tourney and lost to WKU in tournament final but earning a regional berth also in Gainesville. Lady Owls took the eventual National Championship Gators to extra's before losing. Owls baseball loses some key people in MLB draft, but Coach McCormack has been pretty good to replace key players and keep the team ready. Lady Owls roster remains pretty much the same. Owls baseball and softball may be able to compete for conference titles next year.

As far as facilities improvement goes.
1.) Everyone would like to see the Athletic Center start construction as well as hearing funding has been secured.
2.) I myself would love to see Wi-Fi installed or upgrade within the stadium. Some college stadiums as many professional stadiums have Wi-Fi for fans within the seats. Everybody has said trying to improve fan experience, well that would help improve the fan experience because for me data is expensive, but for a college student on a budget, wifi helps them keep the bill down.
3.) Baseball stadium improvements. Like the athletic center, find a group of people who is willing to lay down 1-3 million to help improve the stadium.

If you have any more suggestions please feel free to add them.
