Re: "Boca officials warn FAU to wait to build stadium until road additions are made"

I just don't get the big deal here.  Could traffic be backed up on Glades Road for a few hours prior to and after a game?  Sure.  But we are talking about 5 or 6 games a year played on Saturday afternoons with hopefully 25-30K in attendance.  I'm pretty sure on any given day there is a similar amount of people coming and going from campus.  I fail to see how this is a problem.  The city will just have to deal with it.  Like many have said the have little, if any say, on whether a stadium gets built on campus.  It is not their land and none of their money going into the project.

Question:

I heard a while back now that there are plans in place to build a fly over from I95 off of Glades directly into the campus…

Can anyone validate this??

The question that I have to ask is whether or not FAU can be held liable for transportation concurrency issues if they build a stadium that reduces the level of service of Glades.  Impact fees, etc.  I'm not sure but it would be a DRI (development of regional impact) and therefore would have to be approved by the Department of Community Affairs at the very least.  Since its not City land FAU can't be expected to pay the city, but Glades, Spanish River, and 95 are all State funded at some level and we may need to pay the state for improvements.  Then again, the impact, though heavy when in operation, over the course of the year is minimal so it would'nt be the entire cost of the interchange or whatever the solution may be.

FAU can build whatever she wants on her STATE land. Boca is posturing public opinion through the newspapers to try and get $$$ from FAU. If the city really had a case it wouldn't need the newspapers to help with "negotiations".

If I am correct, UCF had to pay for road improvement also.  So it might just be part of the grease needed to push through project so their will be few issues.  I do remember the county and residents complaining about extra traffic but an extra lane for a few miles and problem solved.  I don’t know where FAU is located but expect residents to complain also about extra traffic.

Yes the public roads to your stadium might need some $$ from FAU to push it though..  Govt people if they want to be can put more red tape then you want to deal with.  (one ground owl and it can push back building for mths) I know when my company built a subdivision we had to foot the bill for widening the 2 lane road around the subdivision. These roads were labeled "impact" fees for extra road use.

Hahaha…

BTW, asking FAU to pay for road improvements is completely different than stating FAU is not allowed to build a stadium.

However, any progress on the physical development of the stadium would violate the previous agreement and jeopardize the entire project, he said.

No, it would "jeopardize" relations with the city, that's all.
