We can put up signs legally, athletics just didn't get permits.

And the permits are inexpensive, right?

permit application

By the looks of that application, it's $37 in a fee to get the signed reviewed (probably "approved" may be a better word), then $37 for a CAB fee (??), another $22 for a review of revision (what if FAU doesn't have to revise?) and $2.80 for a revision sheet. So if FAU would have to pay for those fees for signs, it reads as if it's a "set-up charge" almost - a one-time fee PER type of sign (so each game would be a different sign.) That's about $100 right there.

Then it's $37 PER SIGN. 10 signs = $400 (give or take $30). So we're looking at nearly $500 for 10 signs, per home game, with five home games = $2,500. Ya know what that $2,500 could purchase instead of 10 signs on Glades Road? 1,000 t-shirts for people attending the games, a band for a tailgate party, etc.

Re: ask the AD 2: The Dexter LaMont meeting

p.s. That's not to mention the cost of producing the sign.
I just did signs like this for the Senior Class Gift at the school I work for. There was some color on it so it was a bit more expensive.
$50 set up fee
$20 a sign

So - again, to add to the City of Boca's estimated $500 a game cost (assuming I read the application correctly), it would cost an additional 50 bucks per game just to produce the sign from a graphic artists ($250) and avg. cost of $15 per sign to print, 10 signs a game ($150) and five home games ($750), that's another $1,000.

FAU could buy the first 500 students who walk into the game a hot dog instead of those signs.

I'm not against the signs, but let's look at the cost…..

Although - FAU could do generic signs that say "game this week," which would keep the cost of individually printed signs for each game down. But you still have to print about 45 - 50 anyway because people will steal them.

OK I think I beat this to death.

Re: ask the AD 2: The Dexter LaMont meeting

I guess we just have to decide how badly we want to put up signs.  Also maybe fewer but bigger signs would be better.  We can pull this off if we want to.  Sign costs aren't much of a problem, I could get program board to print them at cost.  Artist charges could be done for free, theres a couple people in-house who would do it.  We just need to pay the permit costs.

This might be a bit hokey, but it works well here in Royal Palm Beach. RPBHS players approached some local businesses and asked them to put up signs in their store windows, entrances, etc. I saw a few and actually went to a couple of games that I otherwise would not have attended. One sign I remember in particular said we support RPBHS football, game today vs etc. Anyways, maybe some of the local businesses that have advertising in the stadium or donate to the school could be approached? Again, the question of "can "comes up with this question....

FAU already has the OWL business partner program.  But we need to expand it and make it more attractive to business's.

I don't think it's hokey at all. It's a fantastic idea. Tradition is built one person at a time… But can we do it? That sounds like an NCAA Rule Book interpretation type of thing.

For one, we may not be able to even transport the athletes unless there is a tangible benefit to the community. I just came across that little bump in the road here at UIW when trying to plan an off-site pep rally.
