FAU Board of Trustees Meeting (Stadium on agenda)

Ted Hutton is also very excited if you haven't seen his blog posts today…

"David Kian said that Dunlap had looked over the financing proposal from Regions Bank and had declared it acceptable, and that he was very comfortable with it, and would be comfortable recommending that the BOT approve it.

That, my friends, is a rubber stamp. The BOT has complete faith in Dunlap. Trust me on this – If Dunlap says it is a go, IT IS A GO."

NOW is the time to start getting excited about this guys, we're a few months away from getting to enjoy shovels in the ground! In fact, I'm going to give a little money to the stadium project right now and I challange you to do the same. Even if it's just $20, all the momentum that we can muster right now will help.

Edit: It's easy to do, and you can declare it to the Stadium- Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc.

I really think people should link to blogs instead of posting their content here and citing them. Ted's blog survives on the amount of traffic his writing gets. No traffic, eventually no Ted.

I agree. Post the link to the blog as opposed to the content. If you feel inclined to post a teaser that is okay, but not the full content. Just one Owl's opinion.

Re: FAU Board of Trustees Meeting (Stadium on agenda)

Congrats on new stadium.

Just looking at the $4M mortgage payment, it would take 22,222 fans paying $30 per ticket (or 17K paying $40) for 6 games to pay the mortgage on the stadium. Considering one could expect 6-8K students (who don’t pay $ for tickets), FAU will need to sell out the stadium every game just to keep current on the mortgage. Also student fees and general academic funds can’t be used to fund athletic capital expenditures so FAU really needs every fan to buy tickets.  A stadium has other financial income avenues but the ticket sales are the backbone and only thing the fan base can control.

I know Dunlap says so it is doable but he is more salesman then financial guru.  He helped UCF by selling the idea of OCS to board but it was the alumni and fan base which backed up his sales pitch. So every fan must buy more tickets then they really need because you don’t want FAU to be the only school in American which had their stadium foreclosed on.

I hope you are successful but by bypassing the bond market you are paying 5% interest vs 3% bonds would pay at. Risky financial plan but I hope FAU’s fan base can pull it off.  I am not flaming just saying FAU needs every fan to do their part because everyone can all look around and see errors made with real estate.

You make some good points. However, it is also important to note that the stadium will be a multi-use facility so revenue will not only come from fans who are attending games. It is my understanding that other events will also be a source of revenue. That means that the staidum will rely on more than 6 days of income generating activity per year.

Sausage and peppers are going to be in the $400 range

I'm actually going to lobby to get the Elephant Hat Beer guy a job selling something else at the stadium, just because I'll miss him so much.

That's going to be the one negative at the new stadium.  Can't buy a beer if you want one.  Football and beer just seems so right together.  :-\
