FAU moves forward with dorm for Innovation Village

Did they start construction on the Innovation Village dorms yet? Ted's blog suggested they had. If so, anyone have pictures?

I passed by the henderson soccer field and right across where the parking lot was; there is a blue fence. Actually the fence goes all the way to where the the stadium small billboard is.
I also saw the engineering building and they are pretty ahead. I had not realized FAU was building something next to the visual arts bldg. It's pretty big, what is it?
A lot of things are happening at FAU lately.
Good for the school and current students that can really enjoy all these new projects.

Yep. That's where they should be building this:

Very nice. From the schematic it looks like the road that runs parallel to the west side of PBCC will be the main road to get from Spanish River to Lee Street.

The new Culture and Society building with the independent movie theater in it. The building "will house general classrooms, and selected departments in the College of
Arts & Letters to include, the English Department, Language, Linguistics and Comparative Studies, Sociology and the School of Communication & Multi media Studies, and the Living Room Theaters (LRT)."

Architect renderings can be found here.

Im gettting nervous again.

Its pretty much February and there is no announcement of the Devlepmental money coming in. Still nothing on the naming rights sponsor that was supposed to be a done deal back in November.

I know they had a bulldozer out there and moved some trees but it seems AWFULLY quiet.

If they have to push back again it will be in trouble for 2011.

I'd like to hear SOMETHING about what is going on.  UNT just started it's stadium construction cam on their website and I'm officially jealous.  This has gone on long enough.  Start building this thing already!

I've got a feeling that UNT is going to become a very good football program again VERY soon.  That school has a ton of potential.  I went to the UNT vs. FAU game this year out in Denton and its a pretty nice town and a VERY nice campus.  With a brand new stadium and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to recruit from they could become a tough to beat program.

I agree Walty. The campus community is great. There are a lot of great things going on at UNT. And I'm sorry we couldn't meet up at the game!!!! But it was a great day to be an Owl.

Balfour Beatty said it has exchanged contracts on the US$123 million Florida Atlantic University student accommodation PPP project.

Balfour Beatty is part of a development and management team to design, build and operate the accommodation, which will consist of 1,216 beds in 375 units on the university's main campus in Boca Raton, Florida. The apartments are expected to be available for occupancy from August 2011.

Re: FAU moves forward with dorm for Innovation Village

With our new University President and this news regarding new student housing on campus, FAU is moving forward. Let's follow up with the Stadium and parking, as well as phase two of the student housing. Hopefully followed soon by a new convocation center (arena) and baseball field, and even more student housing!

BigEast, here we come!

Exchanged contracts means everybody signs and we put shovels in the ground, correct?

Also, $123 million seems high for 1200 beds - I thought it was half of that. I'm hoping $123 million covers all 2400 beds so we don't hit a snag later on. I understand not wanting to build the full 2400 right away but I'm hoping since Crocker is making money off of this, they'll push for the second phase to be open in the next two years. As Dr.Hickey said, the housing near the stadium will sell itself.
