An understandable goal to be sure, but there's a much much larger gap between FAU and UF than there is between FAU and UCF.

Our goal is to become a first choice university, right? And there's really two means to that end – academic reputation (i.e. UF) or social reputation (i.e. UCF).

Academic reputation is the more difficult to accomplish of the two especially since FAU has to fight for resources administered by a state legislature that is stocked with people who primarily care about the upward ascent of UF.

Such is capitalism and politics, I suppose.

In any event, if we can significantly boost our campus life programming (which draws many people to UCF) then we can establish social reputation. And I think that we're making tremendous progress toward that goal.

FAU can actually become know for academics as well. However, this will take time. UF has been around for many many years and they did not get that reputation overnight either.

Unfortuately though, UF is Florida's first state school and being the first usually holds a lot of weight. Case in point… Kleenex.

True, but I thought UF and FSU were created at the same time…? They were created as east and west seminaries…?
Perhaps my history is rusty.
