Re: Naming Rights???

I am not too happy with this deal. I understand from a financial perspective, FAU needs the money to continue the upward trajectory of the athletic department and improvements to facilities. However, here's an institution that profits from imprisoning young minds and an another institution that's responsible for educating young minds. This relationship conceptually doesn't mesh well. I wonder whether the cost benefits are worth the negative publicity the university may endure and what long term impact will it have on the university's image.

Sorry Owlnation, but I rather FAU start somewhere with naming rights, then they can work from there.

Re: Naming Rights???

Well FAU does have a criminal justice program.

Crime and and detention are social issues that always have and, unless something drastic changes, always will be there.

The institution is not responsible for imprisoning young minds.  The young minds are responsible for that.

Don't be afraid to think outside the box.

The Geo Group has facilities all over the world.  What if FAU developed educational programs to be used in these facilities all over the world to educate these young minds who have made mistakes.

How important could that be to the future of our civilization?

Dream big!  Don't hide from opportunity.  If you hide from it, I assure you, you won't find any.

Re: Naming Rights???

Also lets keep in mind the value of "short term" as well.

Movie Gallery did a sponsorship for Troy's Stadium for 20 years. Sadly the company went bankrupt and was unable to fulfill it's obligation.

You have to be kidding.  Imprisoning young minds?  Those young minds are in prison by THEIR actions.  They aren't slaves…they are criminals.  How the fact that the company is run by a man, educated at FAU, who turned it into a billion dollar business and now wants to help his alma mater.  To me that is a great, success story for all involved.
