I am not too happy with this deal. I understand from a financial perspective, FAU needs the money to continue the upward trajectory of the athletic department and improvements to facilities. However, here's an institution that profits from imprisoning young minds and an another institution that's responsible for educating young minds. This relationship conceptually doesn't mesh well. I wonder whether the cost benefits are worth the negative publicity the university may endure and what long term impact will it have on the university's image.

Just a reminder:  GEO Group doesn't drive around in a van and pick up people to put in their prisons….there are several steps before that.  1)  An individual makes a bad choice (personal choice/free will)  and gets arrestted.  2)  Law enforcement builds their case 3)  State procecutes them and THEN they get to go to a GEO facility.  I don't think this will reflect poorly on FAU at all…this is a much better sponsor than having Hooters name the stadium!!

Re: Naming Rights???

I could care less who buys naming rights, I'm concerned two things. One, will it be Howard Schnellenberger Field at GEO Group Stadium? Two, when can get get a sign on the stadium tower?

Re: Naming Rights???

I was hoping for $1mm/yr, but I guess I should be grateful. They showed a plaque with an imagine of what the stadium tower will look like with "GEO Group Stadium' on it.

GO OWLS!!!
