Jab I wonder the same about 5 mil. hey I guess no one obviously would buy it for more. Angelos was probably trying to ask for 50 million! :o

RE: Using some of this money for a new Academic center
I was not aware that a Capital Campaign needed an official donation to get it started, good to know. I don't know if you guys follow FAU on Facebook but when they announced it today half of the comments are wondering whether the money is going to go towards classes, tuition and parking. These people complain about this sh*t every single time FAU posts anything on there. Clearly they don't understand a number of things including that this money needs to go towards paying off the stadium debt; remember we still owe like $55M+ on it. The upside I see here is, if you're getting an extra $500k a year from naming rights, that means FAU can eliminate a bodybag game that would have paid us the same (or similar) amount and instead schedule another winnable home game.

RE: What the group actually does and the "eww yuck" effect
Tim has a point about it - this company just makes money off prisons, they don't imprison people. Is it a strange affiliation, probably, but as Dieter pointed out last night on Twitter, beggars can't be choosers. The upside is that this isn't Barry Kaye Stadium, a man who actually did some pretty slimy stuff and FAU courted him for longer than they should have. Remember when he tried to get the BOT to buy into his scheme to finance the stadium? Point is, things worked out better for us. I'm not sure what GEO Group gets out of this, because it doesn't seem to me like the kind of company that needs to sell its brand to people in the seats like a Bright House or Hooters would, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

RE: Nickname
Owlcatraz > Bocatraz. I'm going to finish up a blog post later that talks about "FAU as an island" so it makes total sense. "The Bird Cage" sounds like the "Cage" name FIU is desperately trying to get going for their stadium.

RE: Angelos
I believe it was $15-20M which was still far too much money for the naming rights. In his defense, that is (supposedly) what a consulting firm told him it was worth and he went with it.

Could mean the difference between going to a bowl or not….or a better bowl..

I read the FB comments and sent TeamBeer a text.  Insane what some of the comments are.
