Stadium Camera on top of Innovation village...

anyone on this board knows that i'm a big fan of FAU athletics and have been for a long time. I donated a couple grand to this venture and  the school needs it to move forward.

So now that i've said the above…. Stadiums overall are such a waste of money. 6 games a year for 75 million dollars, that is just absurd.

I completely disagree.  In the grand scheme of things, $75 million to get your college to the next level, not just athletically, but to take a school from commuter school to a first-choice institution, is more then worth the investment.  You don't think the on campus stadium transformed student life on UCF's campus?  If you want to be a major American university, you have to invest in athletics.  It's part of college experience that a lot of students want to have, so if you intend to compete with other major colleges for prospective students, you better offer what everyone else is offering.

i know what it does, but what i'm actually talking about is the actual use of the stadium. for 75 mill the school could also put up ten greek houses, a new baseball stadium and possibly even a new basketball stadium.

these also would help the school and be used a lot more….i'm not dissing the stadium, if i didn't like the idea i would not have donated. just saying its crazy how 75 mill is getting 6 days of use a year.

Less than that. Until revenue picks up we have to play three bodybag games a year to bring in that extra $1M and they're all away.

Re: Stadium Camera on top of Innovation village...

Maybe 6 football games a year but there will be other things it's used for.

There will be concerts that come here and I'm sure it'll be used for graduation unless of course it's raining.
Who knows what else? Maybe a High School football all-star game or something similar.

I'll tell you what would be amazing would be FAU vs. FIU outside in the stadium and get it televised on one of the ESPN networks

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Stadium Camera on top of Innovation village...

Another level started today on the press box/luxury box tower - my estimate is now roughly 120'! How high will it go? It looks like at least one more level of forms if not two from the markings on the form for the elevator door openings. So total 140 or 150'+, Wow!

Yes our use of only five or six football games per year does seem low but it is pretty much the same at big boy schools too, they may play eight home games mx, but still mostly six or seven.

Don't forget other uses such as the fall and spring "games" hs games and playoffs, the potential for a minor bowl game, band competitions, concerts - it can get to a respectable level and it will become the center for the campus - ALL visitors will see it and it will help in boosting admissions numbers and therefore standards when we can become more selective - just like with the football recruits. I for one can't wait for all the dorms to be built and the new arena as well.

Football will be the main tenant but it will become a showcase and draw for the entire school, especially when they finally televise our home games from there and show the view of the ocean and the campus - it will be great for FAU!

I am a donor and glad to be. Go FAU and go Owl's!

Re: Stadium Camera on top of Innovation village...

I was visiting FAU recently and got to see all the development on the north side of campus (this was my first time back in nearly 3 years). Wow! The new dorms are impressive. The new engineering building is one of the nicest I've seen – a total change from what was previously being used. It's truly a top-notch facility. The stadium is already easily the tallest structure on campus. It's tough to put things in perspective from the photos, but the towers are TALL (and they're not even done yet). A lot of the surrounding area has also been reconfigured with the rec center and alumni hall. The landscaping is really nice.

My parting impression was that the stadium will be transformational for FAU. It will be impossible to ignore from campus (or the surrounding roads and highway). It's just a few feet from the rest of campus and should be even more tightly integrated once the rest of the Innovation Village is complete. Finally, FAU will have a great athletic facility – and hopefully soon we'll also have a convocation center to match.

Great post! I can't wait to get down there to see this sucker and the entire campus growth! And that has been my point, that this will totally change how not just football recruits look at FAU, but all of the prospective students all acoss the nation! Go Owl's!

Seems like a bird bumped into the camera or something. It's shifted to the left…

Got to drive by the stadium site Sunday.  Like Exit said, the towers are TALL, the picture doesn't do them justice.  My favorite part of the new construction is that when I passed by FAU on 95 you can see the towers easily, which means that the completed stadium will become a huge landmark that a lot of people will see.

P.S.  can some one please convince FAU that the bookstore needs to be open on weekends?  I wanted to go get a new front plate and sticker for the new to me "Owlanche", but the bookstore's only open M-F, sucks for us out of towners.  I hate paying shipping on stuff, especially when I was just there.

I drove by on saturday before the basketball game and let me tell you, that structure is massive. My girlfriend was in awe when she saw the dorms and the stadium. She had not been there since 2007 when she graduated. We also drive by the new movie theater and the engineering bldg.
Congratulations to FAU for everything they have accomplished.
