Stadium Location

Greetings FAU posters and Fans,

You have a very nice message board with a lot of enthusiasm!! I am looking at the campus with Google Earth, can someone point out where the Stadium will actually be built?

Is there any information on the access ramp 95/Spanish River Blvd? Hopefully it will be a full cloverleaf.

Welcome Mike,
The stadium is most likely going to go just north of the Oxley Center parallel to I-95. That is my most recent understanding of the situation. As for the access ramp, I don't know too much. GO OWLS!!!

After looking at it on google earth, the stadium site is actually northeast of the Oxley center. Still parallel to I-95 and the airport. GO OWLS!!!

The master plan shows the stadium going north of the new Lee Street on top of part of the "runway" parking lot that is oriented north-south.

Funny thing, if you look at the north end of the old "runway" (now lot 5) where the dome is going to go, you can still see the white lines from the old marching band field on the black-top.

Mike...there was an article in the Palm Beach Post about 1-2 months ago that went into some detail as to the exit ramp which would be placed next to the spanish river (40th ST) I-95 overpass. It made a point of stating the the exit was needed for relief of Glades and was not going to be build for use for the occaisional sports event, something to that nature.

Quite a pessimist aren't you?

Most of on the board believe that this will be resolved this month, either the dome or outdoor stadium I'm still sure we will move in the right direction.

Don't listen to the negative crap that some have to say, they are typically the ones who will always point out a problem but never have a solution.

Let me give you some positive thoughts. I don't think you can't see the forest through the trees.

Infrastructure is in place. Roads, Access, etc.
1. There are three (3) interchanges with a fourth (4'th) being built. Palmetto/95, Glades/95, Spanish River/95 and 95/Yamato
You have Close access to Florida Turnpike.
This will enable surface traffic easy access to the campus for athletic events, conferences, concerts, etc.
Very few schools in the country have this type of access.

2. There are 10 public and private airports in Broward and Palm Beach County, one of which is on campus.
The on-campus airport will become an incredible recruiting advantage and high donor / alumni advantage.
Fly a recruit directly to the on-campus airport. Fly to FAU in your corporate jet for a football game. Don't you think this will help get recruits and donations? Sure is a great way to beat the traffic problem ;D Maybe the football program can get a split on the landing fees ;)

If you have to wait another 5 years to build the stadium you want it will be worth the wait. Meanwhile you can continue to build your program infrastructure.
A first class football program needs 2-3 practice fields. Building a small outdoor stadium with a track in the interim will help you long term. When your 20K expandable to 70K-seat stadium is finally built you can remove all but 5K seats from your temporary stadium. Turn over the locker rooms to Men?s and Women?s Soccer, Lacrosse, and track teams and you will have a facility which can be used for football practice and provide a home for the soccer/ lacrosse/ track teams as well as IM teams and the Band.

The airport does have it advantages and later can be great for fan fly-in. They just finished two or three new hangers on the field. A new track is being built currently and it would be pretty easy to add bleachers and a couple of Consession stands and bathroom facilities for the present day. They could surely cut a deal with Lockhart for the chairbacks and bench seats.

I really believe that FAU and FIU will have strong programs in the not so distant future.
