Stadium parking

It shouldn't be a disaster. We're talking about parking cars here - it's not rocket science.

That's what you'd think but it most likely will be a disaster. If they don't plan very well (even if they do) it will be a trainwreck. I know when we planned the Homecoming parade and Fall Family Fest parking was a HUGE concern.

It seems like it would be easy but it will probably take FAU a year or two to get it down perfect.

Re: Stadium parking

There are a ton of factors to consider as well that we are just scratching the surface on. Im sure its going to be a logistical nightmare. Top that off with inexperience on the parts of us fans arriving and staff working for the first time and you have a very ugly possibility for the first game.

I have a friend on Boca PD who has told me they are splitting up the traffic duties out amongst Boca PD, PBSO, and FHP to help on that end.

There are plenty of models out there for them to choose from and plenty of folks who have done it before us. They are hopefully talking to those people and adapting it to FAU's unique situation.

Growing pains folks, growing pains.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: Stadium parking

We finally have a discussion about parking problems for our football games on campus.

I have been waiting for a great problem like this for 10 years!!!

Re: Stadium parking

Someone came to talk to all the recruiters about the stadium today and I have concluded that FAU better come up with some miracle parking solution for gamedays because parking is going to be an absolute cluster%*&#. He said that we have roughly 12,000 parking spots on campus..TOTAL! 12,000?! Really? I find that hard to believe but it'd make sense as to why parking sucks so badly during the year. There won't be 30,000 cars but I could see 15,000. FAU should have a committee that meets every day to figure out parking. The closest thing FAU has ever had that comes close to gameday parking is the 4th of July celebrations, and parking and traffic suck!

I'm thinking about just leaving my truck on campus the night before and getting dropped off the day of the game, lol.

Re: Stadium parking

You are right again FAUfashion, and no matter how well they plan it, the first game will be a VERY INTERESTING day. I will be in town for the game and will be very interested in seeing in person how well it is handled. I truly hope it is handle fairly well so as to not run off ANY potential return customers for future games. We want and need all the Owl fans we can get!
But NOTHING can be worse than going to the old Orange Bowl for Dolpin or UM games. I really wonder about the wisdom of puting the new Marlins home there - one for the traffic, two for the "area" and three for the distance they are expecting the over 50% (Broward and Palm Beach County residents) of Marlins season ticket holders to travel 81 times a season! First year sure, but the second…..who knows how many won't renew for year two.

As I have stated B4, there are plenty of places to park on the north side of campus.  Take a drive by PBCC and north, and you will see lots of old tarmac that can hold cars.  Back in the business park area, there are more spaces.  The campus may consist of 12,000 spots, but for a Saturday football game, there is a lot of space that can be used that doesn't count for "campus" parking.  If we run out of space to park for football games, we should all celebrate!

Re: Stadium parking

I assume too that we will be allowed to use those areas for game day parking - or that they will charge you to use their lots - who knows. If not it may pose a problem.
I don't think we should assume the ability to use grassy areas for parking as if it were to seriously rain during the game, imagine the problems trying to get the cars that get stuck out of there - what a bottleneck it would create.
For now, opening game is the big issue, I beleive it will sell out when the time get's closer and the news outlets (TV in particular) really get on board as they are starting to do with the stadium construction reports. The walk-up may be amazing - another potential BIG problem if not handled and planned for appropriately! After openeing day, I agree, I hope for 20,000 minimum for each home game when parking will be a little easier, but if attendance does better - who knows….
